If you're saying the old oil you drain out seems thin that could be because of fuel dilution (year & make of vehicle?) or just because it's warm.
Brand of oil probably has nothing to do with it.

2000 Ford Escort SE using 10/30
- I've had this care for about 6 years, previous owner didn't take the right OCI, you can see some sludge and varnish, not as bad as it used to be. I have to add about 1/2 of quart of oil within the 3koci

I also have 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse (bought new) and it constantly runs smooth through the OCI (currently has QS Defy SL, this car seems to like QS products the most). Has 100k miles and doesn't burn a drop of oil, internals very clean no varnish

Run the QS Defy SL in both cars.

I don't think they make high Zinc QS Defy API SL anymore. It's now API SN with the standard does of zinc. Been a few threads on it.
Still a good oil, juts not the same oil as the old SL stuff, and not high ZDDP anymore.

I agree, GTX was the go-to oil for many decades. Still is for motorcycles and air-cooled motors with local hot spotting... PYB is a good oil, but I think it's a BITOG Fan Boy thing (speculating about the make-up)...

Valvoline Maxlife is getting high marks from the go-faster engine builder crowd. It seems to hold up extremely well to valve train mods and to many red-line passes at the drag strip...

But, the bottom line is that oils are different. Try a different one each oil change until you find one that your motor likes. That is, one that sounds and runs the way you think it should for the whole OCI

Let your eyes and ears be the judge. If the motor is quieter and smoother with one oil, that's the one for you

PYB is the best dino one can get. Why even bother switching to GTX.

My engine didn't care much for MaxLife. Also, no need to switch to high mileage unless you find yourself topping off the oil in between OCI's.

Try out MS5K (Mobil Super 5000) if you're looking to change. Gets high remarks.

Besides PYB, looks like my best options to try would be GTX, Mobil 5000, and Valvoline Maxlife.

Last time I used Valvoline (white bottle), I found that there were black specs of debris in the bottom of the jug. Only noticed when I went to put what remaining I had in the my push mower. I've been wanting to try VML but havn't soley because of what I found in VWB and I didn't know if there was more debrise that came from the bottle into the car.

I also want to start using the Fram Ultra, getting great reviews on here. Currently have Fram TG.

I did receive a email from Walmart about their rollback prices on Castrol. Looks like the Edge (black bottle) is 22 bucks.

Pennzoil markets it's cleanliness just the same as Castrol (or more!)and that's why so many here think PYB is the best cleaner with no real evidence- all oil makers advertise like this.

I got to agree. They are all good, if someone really wants to "clean" then a diesel oil would be better. (I think as their purpose to to suspend and clean up after that dirty fuel)

or just change your oil more often and your engine will sparkle.)

Mobil Super is my go to oil. Much cheaper than GTX or PYB, runs smooth and quiet and last 5000 miles easily.

I've also had great luck with Mag1 and citgo supergard in the family's engines... They all seem to clean good and prevent varnish/sludge if used at a proper OCI.
