That was a spin on advertising. GTX is a fine oil. I would not use sleep using it. I have used it the past.

Oh. You mean you saw the commercial with the piston moving really fast and the guy with the deep voice saying it resists thermal breakdown just seconds before the piston seizes......
Gtx is an inexpensive oil with a really weak additive package. The rotary guys like it because it burns really clean in their Wankel engines. I suppose there is a plus to a weak add pack.
It leaves minimal deposits because it's got a minimal add pack.
When it goes on sale cheap enough to be worth buying edge also goes on sale so I buy the edge.
When I can acquire quality syns for the price of conventionals and all the benefits that come with synthetics why bother with conventional.
I've got enough to do without adding even more auto bike maintenance.

No Clevy is correct it has the lowest starting TBN of name brand conventionals and also pretty low on antiwear additives.
I agree it's good for burners or short changes since a low detergent concentration should theoretically fight less with anti wear additives but I won't be going out of my way to buy it.
Now talk about Castrol Edge, which is a top of the line extended drain product and I might search for that on sale.

You're splitting hair, IMO. GTX has about the same TBN and add pack level as QS, Motorcraft, and many other oils...

Not splitting hairs it has no moly or titanium and 7.7 TBN is pretty low compared to what I use which is Pennzoil.

I'm a little dated on my prices but last time I checked at wally the gtx jugs were exactly the same price as PYB which was $15.67. The Pyb is clearly superior for the same price unless Castrol is using super organic additives that are not detectable.
It's not a bad oil, but it's a little pricey for a dino oil. I think if you use Castrol GTX, PYB, or VWB you might as well pay one dollar more and get one of their synblends instead. If you want to go dino QSGB and MS5K are great oils for the price, I hear good things about Havoline as well but I personally have never used it.

My engines always run fine on GTX but, I don't hurry and run out to buy it unless the price is better than the other brands. Most of the time, GTX is always at a higher price in my area(my experience)!
If GTX isn't as good of an oil as say...PYB, VWB, QSGB, HAV-DS, I wouldn't know it!

GTX blend is the go to oil for the Mazdz 0w20 dealer bulk oil. A good oil in my opinion. Ed
