American Edge is a thinner, lower visc. product, designed to be energy conserving.

For leaks, you may want to try an High Mileage oil.

Every... dang... time. Always stealing my answer and summarizing it more effectively!

Shaky fist, Quattro Pete. SHAKY FIST.

No more castrol syntec for me.. castrol syntec 5qt $21. chevron supreme GF-5/SN 5qt $9.15.

Chevron Supreme conventional is way better than castrol syntec.

You were using German Castrol 0w30?

Doubt it. GC 0w30 doesn't come in 5qt containers.

was running gc 0w30 in my 97 crown vic and its a great oil. i just changed to Castrol EDGE 5w20 oil and the car still runs great. i just notice with the thinner oil, it picks up speed a lit bit faster than it use to.could be just in my mind though. haven't ran it long enough to see if mpg is different

both r great oils but if u r leaking i would probably go with an High Mileage oil as stated above or stick with gc0w30

I noticed that too when I tried it. I can definitely pull hills after work a little easier on the 5W30.

Thinner oils do reduce drag and hence the car can squeeze out a little extra power. This isn't earth shattering...

We are talking KV and not HTHS in this case?

Both, I assume. The OP went from a high-HTHS almost-40 to a 20. This is a significant change.

It's a reduction in laminar flow friction, the layers of flow within the oil itself, not internal engine metal-to-metal friction.

I realize that internal engine friction was not mentioned above, but I have read posts on BITOG wherein the two get confused.

Fuel saving oil has less laminar flow friction, within itself, in order to save fuel. It does not reduce engine wear more than non-fuel saving oil, unless quicker distribution around the engine at start-up is taking place. The difference between, say, Castrol Edge 5w30 and GC, in this respect, would likely be very minimal, if any.
