Castrol Edge how far can it go?

Is Castrol Edge (black bottle) considered an extended drain synthetic oil? Safe for 10,000 to 15,000 mile intervals or stick with Mobil 1 extended drain. 0W-20 variety.

Castrol Edge & Mobil 1 are typically thought to be 10,000 mile oils. Which is just regular synthetic drain intervals.

Castrol Edge Extended Performance & Mobil 1 Extended Performance are for 15,000 mile extended synthetic drain intervals.

I've been impressed with Edge's TBN (Starting and retention) from the used oil analysis I've seen. It's every bit as capable as Mobil 1 Extended Performance IMO.

Are you talking about 'Black Edge' or 'Gold Edge'?

UOA for your application is the only way to find out for certain.

Depends on the car and driving conditions.

Some cars eat premium oils in less than 5k miles of highway driving while others will happily run 15k+ on the same oil.

Your owners manual should be the first reference.

+1 If you live in or near a big city with a lot of traffic, stop and go, cold climates it will go a lot less than living in an area where you get on a highway and travel 70 mph for an hour w/o touching the brake.

+2 I use Amsoil 0w30 which is to run Up to 25,000 in our 02' Prius. With a used oil analysis, the best I can do is 13,000 basically half the distance due to temps and driving conditions. So monitor your intervals or change early. IMO

Had a ford escort do 42k miles on old 5w30 edge. So it can be done. Engine used to cut out at times
