I mailed the sample to Oil Analyzers Indianapolis on Monday and received the report by Wednesday. On my submission form I did not include product brand or information. Only product viscosity grade.

The TBN is lower than Mobil 1 Euro 5W-40, along with less B and Mo, though with a touch more ZDDP. This oil recently sheared -13.66% in KRL, shearing down to a 30 grade in both KV100 and HTHS.

Terrible results for the Castrol. I'd stay away from that oil. One could argue though that it meets some demanding specs.

Why is everyone trashing the oil, what's wrong with the report? Standard SP add pack that everyone uses, with high viscosity. A lot of 5w40 SP oils are down to 13.5cst now. Maybe they shear down to the same point, but wouldnt you want the one with higher viscosity anyway? This is assuming the 5w40 will be used in a higher than average power output engine, with mpg not an issue.
I had an oil burning monster, threw everything at it, and often. My memory says Castrol consumed less than a lot of other favorite brands. No uoa's or anything, take it for what you will, but it was on sale often and always in stock. If you change it often, how do you lose?

It’s mediocre looking on paper vs its competitors, but it is cheap so there’s that. It’s perfectly good in any applicable Euro car.

Here is my report on the same oil (also API SP) from 2023.

Main differences:
-Moly cut in half
-more silicon and sodium
-higher viscosity
-lower base number
-slightly higher starting oxidation
