I was informed that the recommended Castrol Edge A5 is now discontinued. I see a couple of places still selling stock.

Is it only the 5w30 discontinued or the 0w30 A5 also?

What is the replacement now for my Jag S type 3.0l petrol? One Jag garage said they use Shell helix Ultra.

Should I pick up the old stock A5 and store it?

I'd prefer to use the 0w30 as its a group 4 synthetic I believe. Better quality synthetic than the usual Magnatec.

Thanks

Any sensible replies?

Which Castrol would be recommended? Jag did work with Castrol and alway recommended the A5

My V6 has 140,000 miles so I'd like to be using the best possible oil to keep it going well.
I use it for many short journeys now.

Who told you it was discontinued? It is still listed on castrol.co.uk. If you are worried that it's going away, stock up on it, so that you don't have to worry about it for the next several oil changes.

Castrol UK seems to recommend Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 A5 for your car, but between the two, I would agree with you that Edge A5 would be a better quality product.

As far as alternatives, personally, I would have no problem using an A5-compliant Shell Ultra oil either.

I was told by a local Jag specialist. I never followed up on the Castrol site tbh.

Yes I'd like to use a better group oil than the Magnatec. Not sure why Jag don't recommend the better quality oil.

Yes another speciliast mentioned they use Shell Helix for the services also.

Thanks

Any oil meeting Ford WSSM2C-913D would work just fine. Some may be a Group 3 but it's really not a bad thing.

However, if you're looking for protection how about a 0w40 or 5w40 A3/B4 oil? Mobil1 FS 0w40, Castrol Edge 0w40, Shell Helix Ultra 5w40. Loads to choose from!

Thanks Bailes1992.

Just checked the Castrol site and they recommend A3 0w40 for the V8 but the 5w30 for the V6.

Do you think as it has so many miles I may benefit from a 40 grade now?

Fuchs appears to have all the approvals at half the price. What's the catch?

Fuchs TITAN Supersyn F Eco-DT 5w-30

ACEA A5/B5
FORD M2C913-C

Approvals
FORD M2C913-D

FUCHS Recommendations
ACEA A1/B1

FORD M2C913-B
IVECO 18-1811 S1/S2
JAGUAR M2C913-B
RENAULT RN0700

Booked in on Saturday for an oil change with Fuchs 5w30. Meets Jag and Ford specs and cheaper than Castrol.
All for 56 pounds! That saves a few pennies and getting cold and wet under the car in winter. Some cashback also!

At that price I'll get it done every 6 months!

If you're only doing short trips it's likely you will suffer with dilution of the oil due to the engine running rich.

The V6 likes a higher HTHS anyway, a *w40 A3/B4 would be a better choice in my opinion.
