Was looking to change the oil in my wife's 2017 golf sportwagen 1.8t. came across the above Castrol oils. Specs on the back are identical, and both meet vw 502 00/505 00. The only difference on the bottle that I see it's that the euro is a3b4. I ended up getting the euro, because...euro, but it seems that either would work?

Yeah, I couldn't find it on Castrol either. I think I used the US stuff last time, since I have part of a jug in the garage. Weird that they specifically named it "us" though

I've never seen Castrol 5w40 SN and I've used a good bit of the Euro. My Walmart shows SN "in stock" but if I go there it will be the Euro. Website error perhaps.

Here is TiGeo’s VOA on the US 5W40. Anyone have the Euro version?

recently rebranded. they refomulated it like 2 years ago but didn’t touch the the packaging for almost a decade

still not worth buying unless you’re desperate for ll01

"US" is older version of Euro.
Basically it is same lineup, just recently updated.
Older version was unimpressive, current is so, so. Step below Castrol Edge 0W40 and especially Castrol Edge 0W30.

I agree. 0w40 uses a better base oils than the 5w40. Also maintains viscosity better at high temp compared to the 5w40.

The Euro spec Castrol can be confusing because I see two different types. The Edge “European car” (C3 rating on the front) and Edge “european formula” (A3/B4 on the front).
I just make sure it meets the BMW LL-01 that my car takes.

Both are ok, though more common one is A3. Both unimpressive and better options available.

Castrol 0W40 :)
0W40 is completely different formula and step up from 5W40.
Yep. I said this already lol. I thought you were talking about this oil when saying there were better options and that it wasn’t anything special.

What's up with the Castrol Euro 5w-40 now after a year later. When I was at my local Walmart, they didn't have any euro oils except this one. No M1 0/40 M1 5/40 no Castrol 0/40. Only the euro Castrol 5/40
