Castrol Edge 5W-30

I was perusing the local Walmart over the weekend and found a blow-out sale. I was walking down the oil aisle and noticed some Castrol Edge 5w30 oil on the bottom shelf marked for $2.50. I stopped and looked closer to verify the price and it was correct. I then noticed some other items next to the Edge oil that were also price reduced. I scooped up 10 quarts (which is all they had) and proceeded to the check-out counter where they all rung up for $25.00! A $50 savings, unbelievable. I checked out other nearby Walmarts and one had more Castrol Edge, but it was not at the blow-out price.

I asked a store associate and she indicated that store managers have discretion to put items like that on sale. So go check out your Walmart, you might get lucky!

Edge for $2.50 a quart....I would have been in heaven....That would have set real nice next to my 36 qt of GC. You did the right thing by taking it all. A lucky find..

You're not talking about the Walmart on Creighton Road in Pensacola, are you? I saw Edge on clearance there a week or so ago, but paid little attention -- of no use to me as I already have more 30 wt oil than I can use up. . .

Nice score!

Wal-Mart does put some oils on incredible deals at some stores. You'd think that they could just send it to another store where it will sell at a higher price instead of selling it cheap/closeout.

Mine had the old 5 quart QS in the old packaging for $7.50 (I did not know this but my Dad bought all 9 5w30 and 2 of the 5w-20 last week)

I picked up today the last Supertech grease for 99 cents (red grease). Wished they had a few more.

Last year I bought more than 10 quarts Mobil 1 0W20 and 0w40 at one Walmart for $2/qt, they were on clearance shelf. The other Walmart about 4-5 miles away had these weights at full price of $6.xx a quart.

The problem is Walmart is too big, all merchandises are delivered from distributor centers to simplify paper works. If one store accepts some merchandises from another store, then it would be a mess to keep track of inventories among other things. Also, they earn tens of millions a day on sale of hundreds millions worldwide, loosing few dollars here and there is no more few drops in a giant bucket.

Talking being in the right place at the right time. My Walmart does not seem to change their price. That explains why everytime i go the shelf is always full.

Amen to that. I scored 6 quart cases of Syntec (5w30...not GC

), for $9.97 clearanced at Costco. Must have changed the price late Sunday. I happened to be shopping 15 minutes before close, did a double-take and decided to buy 5+ years worth of oil.

Chit...three weeks ago i bought 20 qrts of GC and two K&N oil filters and two Mobil 1 oil filters since they were out of K&N filtes, it was 5 qrts of Syntec and K&N oil filter for 27.00. This was at AZ.

Understand.

I bought earlier this year a couple 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 0w30 and 2 weeks later they had the same stuff back up for $23.

Don't know what/why that happened but oh well.

It pays to look at their clearance shelf EVERYTIME!

I'm all stocked up on the Quaker State Torque Power and Quaker State Q Horsepower for $9-11/ 5qt jug with a $10 rebate.

Or the $20 PP with a $15 rebate...

or the Mobil 1 5qt jug for $22 with a $10 rebate

My average cost for 300 quarts of these brands is $1.90/qt.

So Edge at $2.50 is way too high priced for me...

Does oil really age? It sat underground for millions of years, and was then refined, cleaned up and had other chemicals put in it. Unless its synthetic, whatever oil you buy is millions of years old already, 3-5 more years shouldnt make a difference. Or am I way off in my thinking?

Eh, I'm not afraid of old oil, as long as it meets those specs...
