Viscosity should be 65-76, mine was 59.1
Flashpoint should be >375, mine was 395
Fuel should be Antifreeze should be 0, mine was 0
Water should be Insolubles should be TBN read 3.4
Blackstone says everything looks real good. However the viscosity is down to that of a 5 or 10w-30. That is still within Honda specs, but I think I will probably go ahead and change oil and filter around 4000 miles. By the way, there was no oil added to the bike during the 4,033 mile run.

Dang it!!,
I forget something important. The milage on the universal averages was 2500 miles. That makes my numbers look even better!

robin, it still looks like the oil thinned out major, especialy since there is no fuel dilution, and the fact that it's a low reving. water cooled, flat six. although i usualy change the oil before that, being a touring type bike, i don't think that 4 thousand is a long interval on this oil. look elsewhere, change to a 20-50 bike oil, or look at the hdeo 15-40's. lots cheaper as well. ride safe, penz. maybe look at the amsoil 10-40, or the mobil 10-40 for bikes if ya want to synthetic route.

by the way, goldwings are awesome. i have a friend that has the older 1500cc version, and it sure is silky smooth. another has a valkyrie w/ the same mill. i ride a 1200hd sporty and a kawa zrx1200, so when i get to ride either of their bikes, my back and rear end love it and get spoiled. my dream bike one day is to get a white wing, brand new off the floor, w/ 0 miles! oh well, there's always the lottery. their is a waiting list around here, especialy on the white ones. the dealers want 18,000 plus $$$ as well.

yes, i forgot to mention thanks for the results robin as well. people think that the wings are these huge ill-handling behemoth old people bikes! nothing could be further from the truth. comfortable high speed long distance touring. good in town too, just really not for smaller, short riders imho. my harley buddies try to joke the zrx, i just tell em'to pull up next to me at a light!. still love the 1200xlh, but w/ a glass back and 45yrs young, the goldwings look mighty good to me.

I appreciate the comeback, and Penzdude I see the viscosity drop, but I have yet to see a bike with transmisson and engine sharing the same oil that didn't eat it up. I thought I was doing pretty good. I would like to see a UOA on the Honda oil, just can't see any oil lasting 8000 miles, even with a filter change and a top-off. Gears just eat it up. If somebody has done a high milage UOA on a bike with shared oil compartments, send it in. Also I think any of the 50w's might just be a little heavy, I don't ride, unless I have to, when it gets close to 100. Don't know about the hdeo's, never seen any kind of a test on them after being run through a shared situation. And last, but not least, if you want to travel, 2-up, luggage,5,6,7 days, you can't beat a GW 1800. It is kinda a water buffalo in the Wal-Mart parking lot though.

cool robin. i see where you're coming from about the shared duty of the oil in the wing and how it's harder on the oil. but still, the flat six is a low rever, unlike say a ninja type motor, and i think the water cooled bikes might be a little easier on the oil even futher. maybe the mobil 1 15-50? if the new formula doesn't cause any slippage issues in the wing. that way, after the 4 thousand miles, you'd probably still be in the 10-30 or 10-40 vis range, even w/ the tranny chewing on the oil. plus it's a full syn, and very popular with the bike crowd still, even though the formula has changed somewhat recently or so i've read. seems like mobil, after coming out with their bike specific oils, has all of a sudden said their 15-50 is no longer bike friendy. that leaves their motorcycle 10-40 or 20-50 v-twin formulas. at nearly twice the price. gee. smell a rat? lol.

The Mobil 1, 15w-50 will work much better for around the same price....

You've been running an SAE 10w-30 for the past 3000+ miles....Test this oil after 1000 miles of use and you'll quickly see what I mean.

robin,
get rid of the winter grade oil and go with a straight weight sae40. that will gain you a LOT in the viscosity stability.

Try amsoil AMO 10/40. I have used it in a honda vtx and had it tested by blackstone at 5100 miles. The oil has a TBN of 12 at 5100 the TBN was 6.1 all wear metals ,normal. sus viscosity was 70 with a target of 65-80, flash point was 350, insolubles %0.3. Make-up oil was around 8oz. for a filter change and I changed the oil at 8000 miles.I have little question it would go the 8000 in a wing.
