Cashiers/Monitors at Self Checkouts in Grocery Stores.

I've been age checked for cough syrup containing dextromethorpan. I don't think it is a law, but store policy covers a range of items which have a potential for misuse or abuse.

It is generally legal for businesses to age discriminate on age under 18.

I think that it will flag you if you purchase spray paint and some over the counter medications too...
Medications I heard of. In NY they kept spray paints glues and adhesives they felt were hazardous to minors under lock and key. Also utility knives locked up

I thought Walmart had just turned off the scales a couple years ago because I suddenly stopped having all these problems with items not weighing correctly. But over the weekend I bought just a few small items, hit the pay button and then sat my empty hand basket on the scale and it went haywire. So I guess they've lessened the sensitivity, but they're still weighing. I don't think they can be triggered remotely, but I do know they're glitchy.

Haven't had issues lately. I recall the "place item onto bagging area" or somesuch but haven't seen that in a while. For the most part it just works for me.

If anything, wife and I prefer to do our own bagging, thank you very much. Dope kids otherwise like to stack everything on top of eggs and bread if you let 'em. Not all of them are bad--just enough of them.

That’s what the TLE cashier/checkout is for!
Man both there and at sporting goods they HATE being asked to, well, work. Their immediate knee-jerk response EVERY TIME is to hope you have produce so they can tell you they don't have a scale.

I do enjoy seeing their crestfallen face when I tell them I don't have anything that needs weighed.

Also my wife and I still joke about "breaking" a WM SCO a few years ago: we were checking out with a moderately large order when it just switched to an English accent mid-stream.

I didn't even know they had different "accents" programmed in, but apparently they do because it was very distinct and we both noticed immediately.

I hate the ones that don't let you put scanned items back in the cart and must be placed on the bagging area so it can keep track of the weight of all your items. If you have a lot of things, you run out of room fast.
I let the machine freak out and then I make the person come over each time to clear it. It drives my wife batty but zero cares given.

Without the storage constraints of past technology, localization bundles are often included by default. You could go into you computer's or device's settings now and switch to a different lanuage.

I haven't seen such controls exposed on the machines here, but in Italy, the machines at a Conad grocery store offered the user ability to switch to a different language as standard.

After choosing English, it functioned just like the ones here, including the familiar "please put items in bagging area" voice.
