I'm not really a WJ fan but watching that makes me sick. What a pointless waste of a vehicle. What exactly is doing that supposed to solve?

That Jeep looks like it had years, if not decades of useful life left in it. It could have replaced another vehicle that actually needed to be taken off the road rather than creating waste.

I know the automakers want sales and the government wants a feel good fuel economy condition attached, but this can't be the best way to do it. It's ridiculous.

That video is amazing. I was leaning toward sending my truck to that fate, but now I'm leaning against it. It is such a waste. Maybe I'll keep my 22 year old truck another 10 years. All five vehicles I own are paid for. Can't beat that.

I agree completely. I wonder how many people will be trading in decent, paid-for "older" cars and taking on payments they probably can't afford? A lot, I bet. Myself, I have a steady job but I wouldn't be comfortable taking on a payment, not in this economy. No way.

Remember back in the 70s, when we were urged to drive less to save fuel. You know, car pool, combine trips, ride bikes, etc. Nowadays, the solution is spend, spend, spend.

I saw a report today that said that some dealers are already getting cold feet about the C.A.R.S program. There is (only) a $1B budget for it. It takes a long time to process the paperwork. When the money runs out, dealers are worried that the customer will be out the door with a big discount, and they will be left holding the bag (the worthless paperwork).

I can't actually blame them.
Especially since a lot of Chrysler dealers were strong-armed into buying a lot of inventory, then after they went belly up were told they would be dropped and then were told that Chrysler would not buy them back.

I read today that the EPA has been playing around with the figures that the government uses to determine the 18mpg figure.

Some models of cars that qualified before the change, now they don't....

Where did I see that story????

Some more of your tax dollars at work.

That's a sin.

I wouldn't drive that car, but it shouldn't have been ruined.

My friend has a deposit on a G5, supposed to deliver tomorrow.

I want MiL to klunk her A6 for a Vibe. It has a deer strike and rough maintenance.

Don't know if either deal is going to happen.
