I have for your amusement a CarQuest R85348MP oil filter dissection take of my 2024 Ford Ranger with the 2.3l Ecoboost engine. Filter was in use for approximately 3K miles using Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W-30 oil. Replaced with Motorcraft FL-2123 oil filter and Valvoline HM Synthetic Blend 10W-30 oil. Oil filter was marked "Made In China" and has all the appearance of a Premium Guard manufacture.

Cheap filter is "Leak Tested" for quality assurance purposes compared to expensive filters from Fram & Wix that appear to get no QA whatsoever.

Meanwhile, execs at First Brands will get a bonus for getting rid of pink media, wire backing, felt seal to prevent bypass, making the end caps identical to one another and figuring out how to make leaf springs cheaper. This after Purolator execs oversaw years of media tearing and Wix execs make a filter that does not meet the standards set by US car manufacturers but still claims they do.

The oil filter industry is like a big soap opera! 🫨
