Purchased from RA as part of their $1.24 “Famous Brand” closeouts in recent weeks. All of the filters I received were date coded either 2024 or 2025. Today we are cutting open one of the 2024s.

Wow 😲, quite the RA score! If I knew topic application available and what I would receive I'd have a difficult time resisting. Not that I need any more filters. The topic application is basically all I use for vehicles I maintain. I assume quoted price before shipping costs. Still adding for lots of 6+ makes it cost effective, especially at that price. I have no idea WHY or how topic new CQ Premium at RA and on closeout, but great for you! And you even got the Vietnam made ones. As many have been posted here previously, not surprised by the quality.

Thanks for c&p and Congrats on the score.

I snoozed and lost on those.

I'm intrigued by the new EP variant with the synthetic media. Costs a bit more, but when you combine PGI quality with premium full synthetic media, it's a winner in my book. The only other full synthetic media filters out there seem to be assembled with less the excellent workmanship, forcing most of us to choose between good media and good quality. (i.e. Fram Synthetic Endurance leaking endcaps, louvers and holes incompletely punched, etc).

Now if only PGI went e-core with synthetic media and their build quality. The ultimate filter!

I don’t think there are many other consumer grade synthetic oil filters. Boss is one, and it appears well made. PG seems to have copied the Boss media with the plastic like mesh.
I would rather have the original based on the Mann Germany fleece filter that Mercedes recommends. I figure I don’t know more than Mercedes.

You probably don’t, but you are fallaciously concluding that this fact has anything to do with why Mercedes would spec that filter.

OEM oil filters are based on the minimum that meets the spec. The filter is as likely to be spec’d for it’s low cost as it is for its performance. And lest you point out the price tag of the filter, that’s the price to *you*, not to Mercedes.

The Boss media is 46 micron absolute vs 25 micron for the PGI filter. Being synthetic is the only thing they have in common.
