The pricing of the Carquest EP oil filter is not particularly significant when considering the value of bundling it with 5 quarts of oil. The Carquest EP filter, or the Carquest Premium filter, can be bundled with 5 quarts of oil for the same price at advance auto parts.
I purchased the CQ Ep filter with 5q of Pennzoil ultra platinum, same price with the CQ Premium.

I was in 2 AAP's, 1st one didn't have the Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 I wanted. No CQ premiums or regular on the shelf at either one. Guy said they have them in the back as only so much shelf space, pushing the EP version. The are smaller AAP stores , maybe bigger ones have more options.

That corner looks just like my local AAP.

Went by my local AAP for brakes yesterday and took a look at these filters. The bigger filters, like the 51515 size, have louvers instead of holes. That was interesting to see. The louvers were huge! Wix could never.

If it was a Carquest Premium, it could have been the old version, or made by someone besides PGI. I don't think any filters under PGI use louvers.
