Hey everyone,

I've been a lurker for a while and I figured it's time finally be a member.

So here's the deal:

I bought a 2011 Silverado 5.3 that I'll put about 7500 miles a year on. With that being the case, I've decided to go with a quality oil and filter and go with a once-a-year change, OLM permitted.

A couple days ago I found carquest blue oil filters on rockauto for 1.40 each on closeout. I've heard good things about wix made carquest blue filters. Since rockauto listed them as wix with a wix part number, I bought all 4 that were available.

I was surprised today when I got them in the mail and found 1 filter was different from the rest. They are all the same part number, but 1 clearly says it's a wix built in 2014 while the rest have a fram date code. The 3 Fram were made in the middle of 2015.

Are the Fram made CQ blue filters good? What Fram product are they comparable to? The box claims they have a synthetic blend media with 99.5% efficiency. My untrained eye says they are just as good as the wix. What do you guys think?

Well if these are the Champion Lab made filters then you made a really good score. They will be just fine and should do very well for 10k miles and could be extended to 15k miles in a known clean, well maintained motor.

Thanks guys. Just what I wanted to hear.

Jhellwig: I've put about 4000 on the truck and haven't lost any oil so far. Of course, I've disabled AFM so that may be helping me. But I used to own an 07 Yukon that liked to leak and eat oil. LOL
