Carquest 84712

Does Carquest make a filter same size as the 84712 but just in a longer version?

This filter is for my 2025 Outback, the stock filter that came on the car is about 1/2" longer than the Carquest I bought. I think the Carquest is a great filter, but just wish it was as long as the factory filter.

In the grand scheme of things that 1/2” of filter canister size makes no difference. The actual filter media inside could very well be the same size if you cut open each filter to compare.
And even if the CQP is a little bit smaller than the OEM, it’s still a better option.

Both are PG made filters, same internals.

That being said, the 84712, as mentioned is fine. I actually just installed one this past week along with Valvoline Restore and Protect on my '14 Outback.

I just put one on my mom's Outback. I did think it was strange the filter was so short.

I have the slightly shorter CQP on one of my Subaru’s and the longer Microgard Select on the other. I’ll be doing c&p’s on both to compare at some point.

Subaru OEM filters have been both short and tall, its not unique to the aftermarket:

24 bucks spent straight from the local dealership to address the elephant in the room: The long debated bypass opening pressure of Subaru OEM filters. Both filters look very high quality as expected and thick can took a bit of elbow grease to cut open. Not much to say other than they're very well made jammed packed with many pleats. Both filters have a bypass opening diameter of 10mm and the Chatillon push force gauge read >3.5 pounds of force for the bypass valve to start opening, which estimated an opening pressure of 28.75 PSI. Very strong spring by the feel of the finger.

The Pentius XL is basically the same filter as the Carquest Premium. The XL7317 is taller than the Carquest and has even more filter media than the OEM filters.

The only obvious difference between these two filter models is the bypass valve. The Carquest filters have very small bypass valves, maybe too small for the flow rates that Subaru engines are capable of. The Pentius XL has a much larger bypass valve, which seems more appropriate.
