Off a lady friends 2014 Ford Taurus with Maxlife full synthetic 0w20 and this filter for 6,900 miles. Looks good I say

Enjoy pics and put more Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 0w20 and tough guard 10575 in and on

In the forth picture - what is the lighter colored line in the media near the end cap? Is that the media glue interface?

Forgive me for not keeping up, but who is the actual manufacturer of this one haven't they been Champ, Wix and Puro in a fairly short period of time....?

As always, thats for the cut open...
 
Looks like the fram made carquest filters.

Most standard sizes are onsale at Advance for $1.69 right now.
 
Good looking Fram built CQ red. I miss the Wix CQ red and blue filters. I haven't seen any torn Wix or Fram built CQ filters. I've never seen a Baldwin one cut open. Car51 if you come across any Baldwin built ones please C&P! Nice work as usual!
 
If the Ford in question has a petrol engine, the oil has been used for far too long.

The filter looks OK, but you need to do a particle count UOA to figure out how good an oil filter is. Can chopping only tells you how dirty it is and if it failed in a big way.

Nah, looks like an average UOA for an average OCI, using a typical cheap engine oil!

There is no such thing as a Ford owners manual OCI, it just says recommended maximum. Post warranty it's of no real interest, other than as an advisory limit for defining what an extended OCI is.

Should be able to use 10K miles or 200 hours if the block is in good condition.

I am a huge advocate of oil filter efficiency not mattering. For example, look at the used oil analysis with torn Purolator filters being used. This is not an excuse for poor quality, but is proof that a filter in 100% bypass will still filter. Toyota filters aren't known for being efficient either, but boy do their cars sure last forever. Change the oil when the manual says to and use a quality air filter.

IIRC, the Fram rep here said these filters were just under the Fram Extra Guard in terms of efficiency. Many folks seem to like them too because of their metal end caps. They offer a great bargain and can be had dirt cheap with AAP promo codes, but I believe they now went to Purolator for their house brand filters. My local store still has old stock, but who knows about others.

I thought the consensus was that a normal UOA can't really show how effective the oil filter's efficiency really is. Instead, you would need a specialized test up on above a normal UOA.

This does not appear to make sense, because:-

You are right. Perhaps it is not 100% bypass, but it decreases the efficiency nonetheless. I meant 100% bypass as in there will always be none filtered oil flowing. Poor word choice on my behalf. How much the efficiency is decreased is the question.

This I am not sure of. None of the used oil analysis appeared to come back with any abnormal numbers.

It does not matter much who made which filter (Even if it is Fram who were responsible for the Orange Can of Death filters), what matters is the quality of the parts they decide to use and the QA methods they use to find duff ones.

If you want to use good filters and don't want to use OEM standard filters from a dealer, just go for a tour of your local Walmart or Walmart and buy the most expensive full synthetic one available that has the car model stamped on the box. Might be Castrol, Mobil or Amsoil.

Mine Gott, how can you say that oil filter efficiency and failed filter media incidents do not matter!

In general terms the bigger the engine, the more important the efficiency of the oil filter is and the more serious the results of a split or relief valve failure are.
Just to confuse things if you have a low tollerance (A block with sloppy bearings when new) engine and do mostly long trips, the oil filter is less important. That's why the original VW engines (Just after WW2) just used a simple magnetic mesh that could be cleaned.
