How much of that carbon gunk in the filter can do we suppose became detached from the media only because the filter was being man-handled?

I'm just wondering how much free-floating gunk there might normally be in a filter canister when an engine is started, which might then get pumped through the bypass valve on a cold start.

I don't think the debris came out of the media and went to the dome end from handling the filter. This filter is probably mounted with dome down. Debris collecting in the dome end on a filter with the dome down is why Ford put the bypass valve on the base plate end.

Great filter, and it looks like the Valvoline Restore and Protect is putting in some serious work judging by the residue in the dome end. I can't wait to see what the dome looks like on the EP filter when you've put in an OCI on the HPL.

I love that reddish hue that the alkylated diphenylamines can induce.
