Carb cleaner in 2-stroke mix?

I recently bought an old 2-stroke ATV. I ordered some Torco synthetic 2-stroke oil. I'd sure like to mix a little Berryman carb cleaner in the premix to clean things up a bit in the carb area.

I don't know if this is necessary or even advisable. Would you guys please educate me on this 2-stroke stuff, it's been a long while since I've owned a 2-stroke engine.

If the carbs are old I wouldn't wait for "stuff" in the gas to clean the carbs. If the carbs are dirty enough to restrict fuel flow it's can be very easy to run lean and seize a 2 stroke. So even if the berrymans slowly cleaned some stuff up, your risking seizure while your riding and waiting for it to do it's thing. better to pull the carbs or at least the brass and it clean it the right way.

I also agree with WileyE. The Berrymans shouldn't hurt anything as preventative maintainance though. I run Seafoam in my small engines, mostly as a fuel stabilizer, but it really seems to help keep the carbs clean too.

I think I'll add a bit as a preventative. I don't think the carb is real bad, it runs too good for that. I didn't want the Berryman to mess-up the bottom end of the engine.

The only oil I will run in my 2 stroke stuff is Torco GP-7.

I like 40-1 for normal conditions and 32-1 for racing/ sand dunes.

I think Seafoam recommends 1-2oz per gallon.

Chris142, does the Torco GP-7 smoke in your application? I ran my first mix through this old Kawasaki Tecate at about 40:1 and it smoke like crazy. Maybe smoking out left overs from previous junk oil, but tank is nearly emplty now and its still smoking. I thought this was supposed to be smokeless oil. Does GP-7 really live up to the claims made by Torco? Clean, no plug fowling, etc?
