A lot on this site think Progressive is some sort of evil monster for using snap shot, and I must be brainwashed for letting them use it in my car. It saved me money, I'm OK with it.

I am considering using snapshot if we go with progressive. We don't drive that much, and are safe drivers, etc so there may be some extra savings for me.

I tried Progressive and Allstate and both were in the $400/6mo range. Guess you have to pay for Flo and Mayhem somehow!

Definitely worth the switch for us!

Wow, being in Michigan I would consider the $600/6 months to be a good deal. My wife and I are both 32, clean driving records, qualify for several discounts and have our home insured with the same company (extra discount on both policies) and our auto policy (full coverage on one, liability on the other) is $1189/6 months and it works out to about $203 a month including $5/month payment plan fee.

Every person is unique and insurance varies wildly. Call around for best quote and realize you'll never be ahead in an accident. Body work never comes out as good as factory but life moves on.

I have progressive and have saved $300 from the next competitor. I heard they are not nice to people who call in trying to collect. I had a bozo(10 mins post accident) try and extract money out me for my wife getting rear ended and her car pushed into his car. He wanted a rental for 3days for a exhaust repair me paying out of pocket.

I said call my insurance who told him to pound sand in nice terms and collect from the hit and run driver. Love progressive. He left me a message back how mean they were

I just got my renewal with Erie today. 02 and 07 lexus full coverage plus towing and a 91 toyota 4runner with liability only. $1,800 a yeAR. Been very pleased with Erie.

Also there adjuster is located right next door to a very good body shop which IMHO does some of the best work around for what they charge, they are also a GM shop. So when my truck was hit I took it their and the agent walked right next door and handled it.

I got an online quote from Allstate but it was only a couple dollars a month less than I pay now, so since I'm otherwise happy with my current insurance it doesn't make sense to go with them unless there is a nice discount for adding my homeowners policy. I'm not ruling them out yet, just need to get a hold of an agent and see what they can do for me.

I have an insurance agent who sells me all of my insurance for all my stuff and my company. So when my car insurance comes up for renewal I just cry a bit and he shops around for a good policy. I actually have never shopped for car insurance myself. Having said that Allstate always comes in around the least expensive and they do pay, so I have had them for about 8 years.

The biggest thing is you want to make sure you have enough insurance. The state minimums in my state are a joke, if you own anything even a small condo and get into an accident your assets will be at risk.

And, on the way up too...I'm sitting in that range as well. My insurance no longer even does yearly policies like they used to...they told me the rates were going up to fast for that..

And told to brace for another 20-25 percent increase next time....and then they wonder why this state has nearly 40 percent of drivers uninsured now

MI drivers are paying 2x-3x more than many other states...

I'd kill for 600/6 months for 2 cars....

Then you have used some poor body shops. My guy turns out excellent results.

That's crazy, and I used to live in NJ!

We're not too far off from you - 38, no accidents, wife has a speeding ticket, comprehensive on both cars, $500 deductible. Even with all the State Farm discounts we were still at $600/ 6 mo. When I showed the agent the quotes, he was shocked they were so high too. I told him - if it was $50-100, we wouldn't move but to go from $600 to $283 you can't ignore those savings.

I think it definitely helps to shop around every few years - if nothing else than just to see how your rates stack up.

Good luck and I'd definitely hit up Esurance for a quote.

Do you have AAA up there? Nobody has been able to beat their rate for the last 6 years with me. I pay $450 a year for full coverage and $500 deductible.

I checked with AAA today and they are the most expensive quote I have gotten so far.

I have paid close attention in comparing coverage I currently have to the quotes I'm getting and have narrowed it down a bit. AAA and State Farm have higher rates so those are out. Allstate and Esurance are pretty close to what I pay now, so no motivation to switch. Progressive and Citizens are priced pretty close to one another and would offer some savings and Geico is the least expensive. Got a homeowners quote through Citizens too, higher than what I currently pay by $14.66/month but much, much better coverage. I also made an appointment to talk to my current agent and see if he can give me a better deal and the quotes I have may help with that.

One unforeseen problem with all this shopping around: I hadn't thought about each of the companies checking my credit report, so I probably screwed that up.

It's funny how the insurance industry works. No two quotes the same that's for sure. I one was looking for quotes for a new Harley. Progressive quoted me over $1300 a year and Safeco quoted $213 a year with better coverage. Blew my mind.

I currently have my homeowners policy through the same company as my car insurance (multi policy discount) Geico's homeowners is through Liberty Mutual, but costs $300 a year more for less coverage.

You generally get what you pay for. There is a reason that Geico is cheaper -- coverage is not as good. Yes, they may have less overhead than the giants like State Farm, but when claims time rolls around...they have to recoup that $80/month somewhere.

Usually it is a "soft" check or whatever they call it which does not affect your rating. Most insurance companies tell you this on the application.

How do you figure? I had Geico for years until I found Allied (a Nationwide Company) that was cheaper. During that time I had a couple of claims and everything was paid just fine. What do you mean by the coverage is "not as good"?

One of the ways they recoup the "$80/month" is by not having local agents that for me at least, do nothing. All I've ever had to do is call their 800 number night or day and I've never had any sort of issue whatsoever.

AAA (American Commerce writes for them there) was the lowest rate BY FAR, when I was in north Jersey, but yes, they are one of the highest here in Pennsyltuckey.

Nationwide beat everyone here, at the same coverage, and I like that they do not have to answer to greedy shareholders like most of the others (as well as almost ALL health insurers).
