Currently shopping around for car insurance for the vehicles in my sig. Currently with Michigan Farm bureau. State farm wants more money, Allstate is close to what I'm currently paying. Progressive is about $40 a month less, and Geico is about $80 less per month. Anyone have insurance through progressive or geico, and do you like it or not? Any other companies I should check with? I currently have my homeowners policy through the same company as my car insurance (multi policy discount) Geico's homeowners is through Liberty Mutual, but costs $300 a year more for less coverage.

Geico saved me 15% in 15 minutes. Seriously I've had Geico for 20 years and I have shopped around and they are the cheapest in town. I had one minor accident where the at fault driver did not have insurance. I've been pleased with their service.

I have no choice with my vehicles cause you only have one choice in bc which my vehicles are insured in. My rv is 58 $ per month. Truck is 59 $ per month and car is 112 $ per month. When I get the wife the srt8 we will have everything insured in alberta so I do have choices cause of privitised insurance. Should be fairly close. I know young guys that pay 500 $ per month in ab. Shopping around here can save big $ here. Prob the same over there.so id say shop around buddy. Good luck.

I have had Geico for 5+ years and they are easy to work with and the rates are pretty low. How about Esurance, you should be able to get a quote online from them easy enough.

But casualty insurance is all about risk and how the company views it. Could be cheap for me but not for you.

I use Metlife. It is the best value for me when premiums, policy perks, and service are factored in. I have a life insurance policy with them too so I get a multi policy discount which helps. They are not the cheapest insurance I could get by a long shot but they are reasonable and the other aspects make them my top choice.

You have to be cautious of just going by the cheapest premiums. There are a lot of companies that have low prices but when the day comes you need to make a claim it will cost you in time, hassle, and especially money because they will screw you over. Been there done that.

I had a new truck( 2005 Silverado )that was just 3 months old with 3000 miles that was nearly destroyed by a massive hail storm( very rare here ). $12-$15K in damage. My insurance company was horrid though and the adjuster was a d-bag. They only paid $7900 and that was after a fight. My body guy literally wanted to throw the adjuster out of his shop he was such a tool.

It ended with my body guy doing the best he could for what they paid. Right after I got it back I sold it because of it( lost my shirt - I DID disclose the situation ). My friend who also had his vehicle damaged was treated very well by his insurance and his vehicle was fixed properly. He paid a little more each month than I did but the service he got was much better than I got. That is what opened my eyes to looking at more than just the premium.

My advice is to talk with a few local body shops and ask what insurance companies they have the best luck with and what ones to avoid in your area. If you are lucky and have formed a good reputation with a specific shop like I have it is easier. You can just ask them vs visiting multiple shops. Trust me they will know the d-bag adjusters and what companies nit pick and cut corners and which do it right. Just comes down to if they will tell you or not.

FWIW. Travelers is the insurance company that treated me so badly on the hail damage. I will NEVER do business with them again and advise people avoid them. Just awful.

Major key, look at your policy carefully.

There can be extra charges, such as towing or a lockout fee added...

There can be mileage tiers, for mine it's 3500 and below, 3500 to 7500, and above 7500 miles a year, per car.

If I use the miles up carefully, I can squeeze under the 3500 limit (per car) by splitting up the miles carefully between cars...

Get an independent agent. They have tools to cross-shop multiple companies in a few minutes to find you the best rate. Much less hassle than doing it yourself.

We just switched from State Farm (of 6 years) to Esurance. We were going to be paying $600 every 6 months for the 2 cars with State Farm (100/300 with 500 comp/col deductible). With Esurance it's $263.

I tried Progressive and Allstate and both were in the $400/6mo range. Guess you have to pay for Flo and Mayhem somehow!

Definitely worth the switch for us!

T4R, I see you're in Michigan like me. If you're interested in an agent referral, send me a PM and I'll give you the contact information. I really like my agent and he "shops" my policies with a number of different underwriters so that I get the best deal possible and don't overpay.

About a year ago, I switched to Progressive because they were the lowest reasonable rates I could find. After signing up, they offered me the snap shot. One of my cars doesn't get driven very much, so I did it on that car. It saved me an additional 30%. A lot on this site think Progressive is some sort of evil monster for using snap shot, and I must be brainwashed for letting them use it in my car. It saved me money, I'm OK with it.

What do you want, full coverage or liability?

If just liability, go with whatever cheap jerks you can find. It's the problem of whomever you hit to deal with.

I went with Progressive when I was in my young 20's as they beat geico at the time. I think I'm getting complacent though and they're slowly ratcheting me up.

It's hard to compare my rates year-to-year though as I'm always adding and deleting vehicles.

I have had good luck with Allstate. Prices are good and when I did need them they paid which was nice.

Also there adjuster is located right next door to a very good body shop which IMHO does some of the best work around for what they charge, they are also a GM shop. So when my truck was hit I took it their and the agent walked right next door and handled it.

I'm looking for full coverage on the 07 and liability only on the 02. My homeowners is also through my current company so I may change that too since most places have an extra discount for having auto and home together. I am relatively happy with my current company, Michigan Farm Bureau, and have been with them for the past 4 years but I want to try to get a better price for similar coverage. Trying to free up some money each month since I now have this unaffordable healthcare to look forward to. So far out of 4 or 5 companies I've looked into, Progressive looks the best. Geico was cheaper but Progressive offered better coverage than Geico, and it would actually be better than my current coverage for less money. I am also looking into an independent agent. I too always seem to be adding/deleting vehicles although not as much now as I used to.

I got an online quote from Allstate but it was only a couple dollars a month less than I pay now, so since I'm otherwise happy with my current insurance it doesn't make sense to go with them unless there is a nice discount for adding my homeowners policy. I'm not ruling them out yet, just need to get a hold of an agent and see what they can do for me.
