Well, let me first say that I don't have a TV. A bit odd, but I find there might be too much good stuff on. Modern Marvels... Nova (is that still on), Frontline; I would never leave the house; it has been about 10 years since I've regularly lived with a TV in the house.

I visited my parents in western VA over X-mas and thought I might soak in some classics. IAWL; Planes, Trains, Automobiles; Sound of Music; Trading Places, all the stuff with holiday themes.

Forget it! Five minutes of movie, 5 minutes of commericals. Even 1.5 hour movies were stretched out to 3. Key scenes with some emotional payoff or critical plot info were just interrupted; total waste. Needless to say, I also now know why prescription drugs are so expensive (Hey, I'll ask my doctor about my intolerance)

I don't think I'll be rushing out for a TV anytime soon. A portable DVD player may be the way to go.

Amazing. We have multiple television ..none are anywhere near leading edge ..but they're getting more idle all the time. The medium is pretty beat. The home computer did that to television. Now budgets are really tight on non-broadcast (cable channels) networks. You're probably looking at the 15th rerun of Modern Marvels.

This, imo, is what reality television is "popular". It's cheap. There's not much of a difference between consumer demand and consumer consumption of what's available. Just ask Nintendo or any of the former arcade games. Was it really the craze at the arcade ..or were you told that it was the craze at the arcade and had to experience it for yourself?? Is there a difference

We have 3 TVs, and one is on constantly during waking hours. I'll admit I'm a news and weather junkie; I like to keep apprised of my environment...

The commercials do get on my nerves though, 5 min of TV, then 5 min of commercials is hard to stomach sometimes.....

With Law & Order and it's off-shoots, plus 'cold case files , and CSI and it's off-shoots, the TV is busy mush days(mid day for me) and week ends.(Monk especially)
Add 'power Block' line up and I'm happy.
Computer fills in the rest of my free time.

I haven't watched anything in real time since 2001. DVRs are the way to go. I even timeslip my morning news everyday. it starts 1 hour before I turn it on so I can speed through the commercials and the human interest fluff.

(edited for grammar. this cell phone is difficult to post with

Maybe you should turn stuff off and go outside once in a while.

That's why we watch Christmas movies on DVD now--NBC stretches "It's a Wonderful Life" into an all-day affair with constant commercials. Thanks, FCC.

What gets me is that all the cable/satellite-only channels pile on the commercials too. And you pay for the cable or satellite service!
