BITOG seems to be the place to answer odd questions. Soooo: I'm doing a little research, on Wikipedia, etc. and don't find what I'm looking for. IIRC there used to be a NATO ground troop training center in the great north, with thousands of acres designed to train NATO armor and mech troops. There supposedly was a number of German Leopard tanks kept there so students could fly back and forth to / from Europe w/out moving hardware. This was not a pilot training center, which I have found, and not the many WWII joint training facilities. Anybody got leads? Thanks!

We've run leopards of various types since the 70's I believe as our mbt. So I imagine we had lots of Germans over to train and game with.
I've been to CFB Goose Bay where they have a museum/shrine for all the countries that do low altitude training there. Lots of spruce embedded in aluminum... Worth seeing if you're ever in the neighborhood.

That's my neck of the woods - CFB Gagetown. Largest taining area in the entire Commonwealth (as opposed to low-level flying as Indylan was mentioning). Recently converted from the 1st gen Leopard to the 2nd gen Leopard. Was there for the grand Roll-out Ceremony a few years back. Blew me away! THAT thing is unbelievable. I know a guy who fought the things in Afghanistan & their capabilities are spooky.

I've been in the Gunner's position in both versions & all I've got to say is that I was shocked at how tight I thought it was in a 1st gen vehicle UNTIL I got into the 2nd gen. Let's just say that if the Tank Commander were to get a circumcision, the Gunner would know...

Germans know how to build armour, though!

John.
