Canadian NAPA Gold Filters (?)

I bought 2 different NAPA Golds today for 2 different cars. This is my first purchase outside of Canadian Tire/Fram.

The filters have quite different external appearances from each other.

The NAPA Gold 1036 (PH3980 size) is BLACK and the paper label says "WIX, Gastonia, NC Made in Canada " ? Does WIX have a Canadian plant ? All of this including the NAPA logo etc are on a stick on label.

The 2nd filter is a NAPA Gold 1068 (PH43 size). It is WHITE, it does NOT say WIX anywhere on it, all of the markings are painted on the can, and there is no paper label at all. And it says "Made In Canada for UAP".

Does WIX have a plant in Canada ? If not, I wonder if these are these truly WIX filters ?

Despite the exploded view on the WIX website, neither one of the above filters has a spiral wound center tube.

Regardless, these appear to far better built than the Fram filters I've been using for years.

Wix does indeed have a Canadian plant. The first Wix 51352 filters I bought for my Citroen were marked made in USA and the last one was marked Canada. I have dissected both and in the case of this part number they are indistinguishable as far as construction.

Dana does have a plant in Cambridge Ontario, which makes NAPA Gold, Wix, Kralinator and Carquest premium.

Some of the NAPA Gold filters you get from up here are made in the US though. I bought one for my mom's old Probe GT and it was made in the US.

I've got three Napa Gold filters bought in Helena, Montana, stashed away for my wife's 03 Subaru Forester. They don't say WIX on the filter, but they do say WIX on the box the filter comes in.

Napa Gold's recently switched from a white painted can to a black painted can so there will be a real mix of colors and label designs out there until all the old stock is used up. I'm not sure if Wix will follow suit, nobody around here carries them anymore.

I purchased a couple cases of the Golds a while back and they were all black.
