Gave it a shot. Mixing it with Cola. Tastes better than the other stuff I've been drinking.

Not too expensive, either. I like the 1.75 jug. Easy to grab when you've been drinking

Like most Canadian whiskeys, it's very easy-drinking. But once you switch to bourbon, you'll never go back. I'm enjoying Sierra Mist and Ten High right now (my take on a 7 and 7).

I agree. Not sure what it is, but I've never really liked Canadian whiskey as well.

Care to explain why? It all seems like heartburn in a glass to me...

Bourbon is so much more flavorful than Canadian whiskey! You've got oak, vanilla, honey, marshmallow, all sorts of nuts, ground peppercorns (if there's enough rye in the mashbill), sometimes even some floral notes, and potentially a bunch of other flavors. And it's versatile, too: if you like Scotch, just snuff out a cigarette in some bourbon; if you like Canadian whiskey, add vodka to the bourbon.

Jim beam, Jack Daniels, Makers Mark, Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill.

Scotch always struck me as a stong burb that had had a pipe knocked out into it. And I LIKE scotch.

Everyone has a personal preference, of course. I really like Jim Beam Black.

I should clarify: to drink straight or on-the-rocks, I like Jim Beam Black. For mixing, it doesn't matter so much. One good (cheaper) one to use is Evan Williams green label. Heck, it's even pretty decent by itself, unlike some of the other cheaper ones.

A few years ago we toured the Beam "distillery" (they don't actually let you see the bourbon being made, like some of the others do). That day, they were giving samples of Basil Hayden's. It is definitely excellent - just a little expensive for my budget!

jack daniels is NOT bourbon. It is sour mash Tennessee whisky

I finished a 1.75L bottle of that stuff within the last year. It came from my late grandfather's liquor cabinet and it was old. I believe the price tag said $11.99. It would be over $50 in Canada now. I can't remember ever seeing it at any liquor stores though. It was similar to Wiser's; easy to drink, not a lot of flavor. I'd buy it if I saw it for less money than Wiser's.

Don't overlook Ezra Brooks and Evan Williams black label as good budget bourbons. I drink Ten High because I'm a skinflint. There's nothing wrong with Ten High, but it isn't as complex and enjoyable as the more expensive bourbons. Avoid Old Crow and Mattingly & Moore.

Edit: Old Grand-Dad 100 proof is probably my favorite bourbon of all, and I've had alot of bourbons.

Try the two offerings from Bulleit: Orange label and then their straight Rye Green label. The Orange label has an unusually high rye content as it is for a bourbon and is not overly sweet like others. The Rye Green label is amazingly spicy and it's my favorite brown liquor (and I come from a love of single-malt Scotches).
