Is 'Canadian' Havoline the same stuff as you get in the US? It is put in different bottles ('old style' bottles, same as the Equillon years), and looks different than the US stuff. If it is 'different', are Canadian going to be getting the DS stuff?

Local Partsource still has these 'old style' bottles of 5w30 and 10w30 Havoline, but they are SM-rated, so they are newer stock. If they are phasing these out for the DS stuff, I'm gonna get some of this moly-rich, 'old' stuff for my oil change this Friday. We still have to see how good the DS stuff is going to be!

I looked for Havoline in my local Partsource a few weeks ago and they didn't have it at all, they didn't even have a spot on their shelves for it. I was curious to see if the new DS was sold up here yet.

I'm going to PS on Friday (when I'm getting my oil changed) and if I can get some, I'll use it. Last time I was at the one near me a couple of weeks ago, they still had a fair amount of 5w30 and 10w30 on the shelf....I might get the last of it!

Oh no, i can see it now. Instead of tales of who scored some "GC" and where, it will now be tales of who scored some "CH" (Canadian Havoline).

I don't think so....although there was a fair amount of Havoline at PS when I was there, the shelves definetly weren't 'full', and it DID look like there were cleaning them off. It will just be interesting to see if the new DS havoline is sold up here, or if Havoline just disappears off the market in Canada....

I went to PS on Friday, and they still had some Havoline, but not much. Actually got the last 4 quarts of 5w30 that were on the shelf, and there were 12-15 quarts of 10w30 near it. Wonder if they will get more, or if it will be DS that shows up next. Or nothing, if Chevron stops marketing the product in Eastern Canada....

Had it put in my Cavalier that morning, and so far so good - oil is almost clear on the dipstick, and the engine is nice and smooth (not that I expected anything different!). I'll be running it for 8k km's or so, which should be about 4 months. If there is more on the shelves than, I'll probably use it again....or if its DS, I might try that too. By then there should be some DS UOA's on the board to evaluate this product.

It will be interesting to see how the DS will be packaged in Canada, b/c the packaging is slightly different form the US for the current product.....

I e-mailed Chevron to find a definitive answer to this, and this is what I got:

Thank you for your question on the product labelling. To meet the
Canadian regulations for selling product at the retail level we need to
produce labels with English and French. To set up these labels we need
to recreate artwork, removing half the text and marketing info from the
USA based English only label, then replacing it with French text, plus
we must then commit to a specific volume of labels with our printing
company. So, at this time we are continuing to use the old art work to
use up our inventory of labels. The product filled into the containers
you can rest assured is the most up to date, highest API quality oil
that you can trust to put into your engine. We are working towards
updating our label artwork so that our Canadian stores may have the
deposit shield label on the shelf.

Regards,

Jim Arner

That is what I suspected the case was - labelling regulations made them not be able to use the same label, but that it was the new DS Havoline in the bottle.....
