I have an 2006 Civic SI with a 6 speed manaul with 20K in miles. I am going to change out the transmission fluid with synthetic. The tech reps at amsoil said it was not nessasary to flush the tranny just drain and fill. The tranny shop strongly disagrees they want to flush and fill. They want me to buy 10 quarts of amsoil to perfrom the flush and fill. The drain and fill is only 3.2 quarts.

What is the straight skinny?

Could you give everyone the name of that shop so they know to avoid them? Do they understand its a manual transmission? You do what is called a flush on an automatic because they are designed so that only about 4 quarts come out when you drain them, so they suck the transmission fluid out through the dipstick tube. That way you replace it all. However, in a manual it all just flows out, except for a very small amount that adheres to walls and gears.

Do a drain and fill and do it at another shop if you aren't doing it yourself.

Wow...what a request 10 quarts of Amsoil for a flush.

Good thinking in asking here first before you wasted all that money on false information.

Maybe the bum wanted you to buy it and flush with it and would have ended up putting it in his truck afterwards, Free Amsoil for him.
