Can HDEO's stand up to Ethanol??

I know this may be an overkill question (not Overkill the member) but if I wanted to use a HDEO designed for Diesel use for a car or light truck, would the formulation be able to handle the ethanol in gasoline now? I am wondering because a lot of people on here use these oils in their cars/light trucks. I'm talking about the 5w40 Rotella's, Delvac etc. As you all know VW has a spec for gas and diesel 504/507 I believe, we don't in the US. Thank you.

The best used oil analysis I've had with one of my cars was running Rotella 10w30. 5.7L V8 in my wagon. I believe most gas around here has ethanol in it although it is impossible to know for sure since they removed all the labels several years ago that told us if it did or not. The state passed a law that had the labels removed from gas pumps, I guess they don't want us to know.

I'm trying Rotella T6 5W-40 next.

All gasoline pumps here in SW Florida have stickers stating "UP TO 10% ETHANOL". sounds like a MI thing not used by other States.

In years past they were required to label it if there was ethanol in it. Now they don't.

Yea,here in NC pumps are also labled,i thought they were supposed to be that way everywhere,i guess not must be state by state decision.I try to avoid ethanol if possible,at least afaik i am.

I was wondering what ever happened to those stickers we used to have on the pumps.

They're gone in OH too, AFAIK Shell was the last to cave & add it. Personally my gasoline MPGs suffered A LOT in recent years-that's why all the diesel trucks!

Yeah, it depends on the state. In Oklahoma they are still required to have the label and we have quite a few stations that sell ethanol free gas. I would assume if they got rid of the labels everybody would go to ethanol---bad idea!

Laws regarding labeling or not labeling can make things confusing for out of towners.
Non-ethanal "enhanced" fuel is available in some areas, but NOT available in others.
The EPA Mandates that all gasoline sold in certain areas contain a minimum amount of ethanol.
Here in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area, I don't even look for the stickers most of the time....because it ALL has "up to 10%" ethanol, sticker or not.
I used to tell friends that would be coming to visit not to bother shopping for gasoline without ethanol....unless they were prepared to make a drive to a county that does not require it.
It can be an issue for the station that has it.....and the station next to it.....with a county line between does not have it.

Stating that......and the fact that the E10 "up to" 10% ethanol has been around for a long time now, I would think that if there was an issue with HDEO oils in gasoline vehicles using E10, then we would have had posts on this site about it.
Some of our regulars who use HDEO oils in gasoline vehicles might chime in about the fuel that they use.

We have E10 fuel only around here. I try to use Shell or Chevron exclusively. All my vehicles (new and old) have fuel dilution issues. I've tried every which way to improve tune levels to no avail. So I've been using 10w30 SM/CJ-4 (LE8130) with great success in one vehicle. It hasn't helped with the fuel dilution, but it seems to be controlling wear better and does not shear much. I like it so much that my other two vehicles have their first fill of it now. I'll be testing them both after the second fill.
