Can an Android based phone get viruses?

I also have an Android phone, the HTC Evo 4G. I haven't noticed anything about virus infections yet, but I believe it could be possible with all those apps out there.

Yes. Even apple products are not immune from viruses entirely. You can get a program called "Lookout" in the apps store. It has a free version and a paid one. I have used the free version for the past three months. It has excellent reviews.
A little OT but: Did anyone see the guy on the News who had the Android 2 explode while he was talking on it?

It isn't an Android Phone. It is a phone that is compatible and possibly running the Android framework/OS.
Everything is 1s and 0s, you can get a virus on anything. What makes you think you have a virus?

If you want to be fearful of cell phones, i would worry about putting a tranmitter next to your brain for 3 hours a day.

Nothing at all in fact. I figured that it was possible- maybe I should have asked "How common are viruses on Android O/S phones".
My Droid works pretty good, with a few glitches, so I'm pretty sure there's no viruses. I just like to be pro-active about things.
