Can a 40 to 30 weight switch start consumption?

When I got my car, it has 10-40 in it. I stuck to it until I got my ARX and started the process. I went to 10-30, and I started burning oil. A molasoke was done before the oil change, so I have yet to rule out a problem caused by it. My question is, would the drop to a 30 weight cause the burning, or did I screw something up with the Molasoke?

What's the consumption rate and how long has it been doing it? I had consumption go from zero over 12k to 1 quart in 3k when I switched from D1 to RTS. It calmed down to zero again over 9k ..which is when I change it now. It took 3 OCIs to stabilize.

I doubt you did anything harmful with what you've mentioned there.

Car had 10-40, switched to 5-40 after purchase. Started running FP and LC. Did a Molasoke with LC. Before this point, I had never seen any smoke out of any orifice on the vehicle. Did the molasoke, changed the oil to a 10-30 because it was cheaper than the same 10-40, plus it was getting to be winter. Added ARX in the 6 oz. amount because of a 3L pan (660cc engine doesn’t need much I guess). That week, I started noticing blue smoke after idling at lights after the car gets up to temp. In about 1500 kms, I have used 3/4 of a qt. The make up is GTX 10-40, but the extra viscosity, what little there would be, doesn’t seem to make much difference. I will go to 10-40 or 5-40 when my 2500 km are up. Someone mentioned that I might have increased compression which might have caused the weakness in my valve guide seals to manifest itself. The strange thing is I usually hear a rattling sound when it starts doing it. I am trying to get a new PCV valve found, just to make sure, even though I have cleaned it several times. A catch can will be spliced in when I can find a mounting bracket for it and the MG.

Obviously I'm not familiar with this engine. Man that's small. Does this engine even spec a 30 weight?

The other engines of that size have spec’ed a 30, so I didn’t really give it much thought, but I will check tonight if I can find the manual. There isn’t much info on this car, but the turbo version of the engine shows up in the Suzuki Cappuccino that can be found in parts of Europe. The engine is an F6A. I have a friend in Singapore that has some electronic manuals, so I will have more information when he gets back to me.

Gary, you helped with the oil filter stuff I was asking about a month or two ago.

I put the ARX in on 10/19/06, so in that time I have accumulated about 2000 km. It sat for three weeks in a parking lot while I was in the states, so that gives you a general idea of my mileage. Gas mileage hasn’t really dropped except for the 2 kmpl drop in the middle of November that screams winter gas.

Oh ..I recall exchanging dialog with you about this engine/filters ..but I still don't "know the engine"

I thought it was a neat looking vehicle though.

When I get onto an unblocked internet connection, I will see what I can find out about the F6A-T oil weights.

I wouldn't ever accuse you of knowing an engine. I don’t know the engine and I’ve looked down it’s proverbial blouse, and up it’s proverbial skirt.

Another something I noticed. I let my friend borrow my car for driving practice. I noticed that it would burn oil in reverse but not as much in Drive. Going back and forth really started it smoking. Any thoughts?
