Can a 1/4" drive socket set really be this inexpensive?

Obvious chinesium but I wish my made in USA sockets were stamped like that!

No case tho, but according to the video if they ever get shot out of an air cannon or used to throw some smoke at a concrete wall, they will be OK.

It was earlier and my order is processing. The 3/8 would have been nice too. They had a set of 200 sockets for $59 for awhile got sold out and now eBay is full of them for twice or more. That's the new world we live in.

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a 30-piece set of deep sockets that came with a 1/4" ratchet at WM for $11. It is their house brand of "Hyper Tough". It includes a single flat/phillips bit. The set of deep metric sockets goes from 4mm to 13mm. The deep sae sockets go from 5/32" to 1/2". The purchase was meant to go in the tool box of my son's truck for emergencies. I replaced both front wheel bearings on my AWD Navigator shortly after the purchase and decided to give them a try before giving them to my kid. The sockets are actually pretty good, but the ratchet was a complete piece of junk and quickly got a different one substituted in.
Except for the ratchet, it was well worth the $11 and I won't lose any sleep if it gets ripped off. It's got a 5 year warranty instead of a lifetime warranty, but I'm not going to take the ratchet back and have them exchange one piece of junk for another.
So, yea, to keep up with the competition, I can easily see your set being that inexpensive. Horror Freight used to have similarly priced sets with a lifetime warranty.
If and when you need it for an emergency, it's well worth the price.

Thanks for posting. $10.60 delivered to my local HD store. Not sure HF can beat that price.

Walmart has tools that look very similar to Harbor Freight at a similar price. I sometimes buy tools there that I would normally get at HF since I'm there anyway.

I got a set similar to this, this time of year, a couple years back for ~$7. The ratchet was awful but I was able to disassemble it and lube it, which fixed it, though it oozes oil out its head now.

They are great for the billions of 10mm-headed bolts with little appreciable torque we find under the hood.

I would not trust my knuckles to any of these cheapo sets. Even as knock around set in a camper. Your hand will hurt if these suddenly snap!

You can get that same 40pc 3/8 set from Harbor Fright for $4.99, and it's been at that same price for decades. I bought one in the early 80's... literally wallowed out the inside of each socket as I used it, and then bent and locked up the head of the ratchet the first time I really leaned on it. The unused sockets in less popular sizes I literally threw away.

I grew up with quality tools, albeit entirely mismatched sets of older stuff. The only reason I bought the 4.99 set was my car toolbox got stolen. It was more of a liability but at least I broke it at home and it didn't leave me stranded on the road. And yet, it is still sold today. Oh, I see it is 5.99 now.

I moved on to Craftsman and split a socket each time I used it. They had just came out with their new "thin wall" sockets. So then on to SK. Now I buy whatever I want, as long as it is quality.

H-F will give you an extra 20% off that price with their "Super Coupon" you can get online and save it to your phone or print off. The Husky ratchet looks like a Snap-On knockoff.

These were on slickdeals popular deals page a few weeks ago, local store showed 4 of one ~11 of the other. When I got there naturally couldn't find them. Talked to several employees, no joy. Finally said to an employee suggesting another set for more, can I speak to a manager. He didn't seem to like that. Anyway asked manager is your inventory tracker that far off. Within a short time he found them up front in separate display where they keep sets for Christmas. Got one of each, $9.88 a piece. Seem worth that to me, like the quick release feature on the ratchets. 72 tooth ratchets smooth as buttah. Here, now showing no store pick up.

You guys are right, the sets look the same!

I picked mine up today. It comes in the case not loose. In the store in a cardboard display stand, facing the window and door section where no one walks or sees, was the same 1/4 set and the 3/8 for 9.88, had probably 10 of each. Got the 3/8 set too, and also a 200 socket set for 60 which do come loose in box. A heavy box of sockets in plastic bags by type. I don't know how it could be cheaper and for a good brand. Enough sockets for almost anything.
