$ 21/night plus gas and supplies. Sitting at home on Facebook is much cheaper!

....Is a darn cheap weekend away in anybody's book. You have to eat so the cost of food doesn't count, and you'll do some driving anyway so maybe add 1/2 the cost of the gas...

Always a laugh when people say they can't take a vacation because the price of gas went up a quarter, if they're living that tight something needs some adjusting.

I have not hear the major news networks even mention the economy, much less say its good.

No kidding. Most people live paycheck to paycheck so any increase in expense is going to hurt them. And since we live in the world of complaining we're likely to hear all about it as well.

We all wave the flag but there is a lot which needs improvement in this country.

If any of it gets mentioned someone like you will label it "complaining".

I don't think the OP extorted or robbed anyone, but made the income through hard work.

It's his money so let him enjoy it in a way of his choosing.

oh nothing against the OP, I'm glad he is able to have the campground all to himself/family.. I was answering why the campgrounds might be empty.

Wife and I are moving to San Antonio this coming weekend, so we are having some dinner at our friends house then watching fireworks at the ball park.

Nothing crazy. It's been too darn hot, 102 degrees is too hot to go camping.

Most Texas camping happens in early spring anyways.

All my friends go to Colorado or Washington State for summer vacation anyways.

Few years ago we went to the Cape the week before Labor day and it was great. Deserted. Well not quite that bad but very low key. Loved that trip. Couple years prior we went up to Maine in October for a college alumni event and had issues finding a campground open--but again, good trip, few people to bug us.

I'd like to find a cheap bumper pull camper, would have to have all the luxuries of course, for random trips. But 10 mpg has tamed that desire. Maybe an a-frame someday. The popup is nice but just too darn hot in summer.

I had a camping / offroading trip over the weekend. It was bad. We had a few cars reading over 100 on Saturday and it was definitely over 100 yesterday. I was in the jeep (with no AC or carpet) all day Saturday. My floorboards were so hot I melted a shoe!

Then when night time rolled around, half of our group left and went home to sleep in the AC. I did have a fan going in the popup so it wasn't too unbearable.

I ended up leaving early Sunday morning. I started to get overcome by the head. FWIW, I brought 5 gallons of water, 1.5 gallons of powerade, a gallon of iced tea and bought some sodas while on my way up. By the time I left sunday morning, it was mostly gone.

Interesting.. much like bike riders there's fair weather rver's also. Too many are watching the RV shows thinking it's a glamorous lifestyle.. until they run into problems and there will always be problems! We didn't have any issues finding spots on Memorial weekend and that surprised us a bit. We haven't camped since I've had to redo the roof after the Texas trip late May but I'm getting the itch since it's mostly done.

Kind of funky forecast for the Southeast and for us personally, the 4th right in the middle of the week isnt our preference, unless you are taking personal time off at work, its only one day in the middle of the week that you are not working ...

Odd also that traffic on the Cape is not too bad this weekend, traffic is usually so silly this holiday weekend to the point of it being best avoided. Drove from Osterville to Woods Hole yesterday afternoon and it was almost like a normal (crowded) day, would not have attempted that on a typical 4th week. Must be the mid week holiday splitting the vaca for folks who didn't take the whole week off; some took the first part of the week, others the latter half

I am 2 weeks into a 3 plus week camping trip now and most of the places I've been are pretty full. Ohio, Kansas and Colorado so far.
