Calif, longest life expectancy for Men

Yeah, heavy industry in Hawaii is pretty much gone now!
And low life expectancy in some of these other places can be explained by things unrelated to health.

Forget that. I'm waiting for the discovery of the aging gene and therapy to halt or even reverse it's process.
Well telomeres are thought to be a part of the aging process, they shorten in cells as you get older. However cancer shares one attribute with telomeres in that they also don't shorten so you have to be careful the gene therapy doesn't give you cancer.

It's called the Klotho gene. Also look into INS-7 and GATA6. Increasing telomere length is something anybody can actually do but few are willing to put in the work for decades. It's not something you can just start doing when you notice you're headed downhill.

Whether one might live longer moving to (for example) Japan, which has the longest lifespan, has been the subject of a number of studies. Or even whether moving to France might reduce a man's risk of heart attack.

The answer seems to be clear as mud. Japanese people that live in the USA retain long lifespans. There seems to be a lot of information claiming that "diet" is responsible, but clearly good genes play a major role. An insurance company study made bold claims that the typical Japanese diet was responsible for the lifespan, by reducing circulatory issues and cancers. But the fact remains, Asian people have fewer MI's (heart attacks), strokes and cancers when compared to the average Westerner, without regard to diet, exercise or location.

I live on the East coast of South Florida, which seems to be in the USA's top tier. Will I live longer if I move to Japan? From what I can tell, the answer seems to be no.

There is no question in my mind, the USA's food supply is directly causing people to become obese (a major risk factor for early death) likely from hormones, and other chemicals in our foods. Furthermore, we have very high rates of thyroid failure, a common cause of obesity. In fact, the USA is second only to China and Brazil with regard to thyroid failure. And Brazil may be directly a result of excess iodine consumption.

In any case, take an Obese American to many remote countries, feed them the exact same amount of food and watch the weight come off. We see it happen almost instantly when we travel.

Ru'afo from ST Insurrection comes to mind. He'd been eating nothing but deep-fried fish sandwiches all his life and was falling apart by age 30.

As an ex-Southern Californian-you will spend the longer life in traffic on the freeway......Hawaii isn't much better when the tourists return in force.

A lot of it has to do with access to health care, education, etc, not weather.
I've read studies that make similar associations and on many points there is no question. However, it is good to know that intelligence (IQ) is highly correlated with longer life and also associated with additional education. The conclusion I draw is that better genes have a large number of benefits.

For example, we often hear the claim that lifespan is longer now. However, in the past, everything from infant mortality to childhood infections, war (yes we are in a time of peace, with few lives lost) and horse accidents cut life short. If an adult made it to 50, their chances of reaching 80 were about the same as today.

I have been hurt worst in Horse accidents than motorcycle accidents. Horses are dangerous. Then again you are having the best thrill in life the micro second before you fall off. So says I.
