I tried that years ago(25?), had headaches. Then went to a cup of reg. in the am, then decaf the rest of the day. Finally just went back to drinking regular, about 6 cup pot in the am.

If i don't I get the worst headaches. I must have coffee!!. It's a whole different need then nicotine.

Yup thats the headache I get. I know it sucks man.

Are you trying to give it up?

I made it through 24 years of life with out drinking caffeinated beverages. I didn't like soda, couldn't stand coffee and even tea wasn't really my cup of...well, you know.

I'm 27 years old now, and can't go one freaking morning now with out that sweet nectar of life!

pablo -- try MMO as a substiute. according to it's MSDS, it contains no caffeine. the odds are pretty good that a couple of bitogers have tried it. seriously -- good luck.

I could not give up caffeine unless I could have nap time when driving. Coffee never agreed with me. Soda makes me ill. I use No Doze. That way I can know exactly the amount of caffeine I am taking. Some days is 1/2 tab (100 mg) or 2 tabs (400 mg). That is my limit if I don't want to be too wired when it is time to go to bed. Good luck!

What worked best for me was to slowly wean myself off of the stuff and get a good night's sleep the night before. I do admit I do feel like i need ONE drink containing caffeine some mornings but many days I don't. I don't advise drinking coffee at all. People tend to over-do it with multiple cups. Try one can of Pepsi or whatever your favorite soft drink is. Make that your only caffeine the whole day. Eventually my need for caffeine subsided and I am now caffeine free. For coffee drinkers that absolutely must have your dose, Maxwell House used to make a "Light" brand that had 50% less caffeine. Hope any of this helps.

Why are you trying to quit? It tastes great, helps control hunger, encourages productivity, increases mental awareness, and in moderation....has no negative health effects.

I've quit smoking ( both kinds ), and binge drinking. Tried quiting caffeine numerous times. I think I made it one week once. I usually only have one or two cups a day.

Like Hemi426 said, the best way is to gradually drink less over a few weeks. Although I have never been able to stick with it. I'll be having a bad day at work ( or home LOL ), and "need a fix".

I have heard of people having great difficulty in giving up coffee, but I have never had any sort of withdrawl myself.
There have been times when we have been on vacation where it simply wasn't possible to get a cup in the morning.
Didn't bother me at all.
There are times when we run out, because I've forgotten to buy coffee, and I do without the next morning.
My wife, incidentally, is a tea drinker, and never drinks coffee.
It doesn't cause me any problems.
I guess that withdrawl is real for most, however.

+1

Doing is slowly works best. Then one can drink decaf (depending on brand may have up to 10%) or tea (less caffeine and slower absorption).

Sleeping issues, some folks - self included, break caffeine down very slowly.

I think my addiction is starting to leave me as soon as my chiropractor told me that caffeine makes my back pain worse.

Either back pain or headache.
