Here are a few shots I took when I replaced the cabin temperature sensor aspirator on my 2008 Chev Suburban. It’s that round screen about your left ear up inside the head liner in trucks with the automatic HVAC systems. It contains a fan that pulls air over a temperature sensor for the HVAC. If it gets loaded with dust or gets close to failure it can make a sound like radio noise. The part is less than 100 bucks. Apparently you might be able to just clean it but it’s such a PITA to remove it, I figure it’s worth buying a new one. Check You Tube if you want to do yours. There is a neat shot of a rolled up air bag in inside the pillar cover. Apparently replacing this unit can also help if your cabin is not warming up or cooling off properly when using your remote start.

More shots. You pry off the grill, remove a screw in the pillar cover, remove the pillar cover, remove the left sun visor, pry the head liner down on the driver side, then reach in for the unit. You maneuver the unit to get the connector in view of the hole in the liner and undo it. One shot shows how the connector clips into the unit but it is staged, showing the unit on the outside of the headliner. The connector is clipped onto the new unit by working on it through the hole in the headliner. The grill holds the unit in place. Your small handed buddy might be useful here. Enjoy.

My 07 Mazda3 has one of these in the dash, near the driver's right knee. Mine was making a high pitch whine (like a failing PC fan). New part is like $150. For giggles, I took it out (like 4 screws and 5 minutes), disassembled and cleaned, adding oil to the fan bearing thing. And it's been silent for 10k miles or so now. Just needed oil, mainly. Also works for noisy PC fans.

Apparently one way to check the function of the aspirator is to use the remote start on a hot 90 degree day. It the air conditioning comes on automatically, it’s functioning correctly. I hit the lock button and the remote start and left it a few minutes. Yep, the AC was on. Also, no further weird noises. Mission accomplished.
