C5 question

I'm attaching a picture of a vehicle near me. I'd like to know if this picture depicts a z51 package or not ?? Didn't see what I was looking for in a quick search.

Should have added, its a 01.

In reading, the 'preferred' years seem to be 01 and up? Any anecdotal feedback appreciated. Understand some of the issues that cropped up on the earlier years...

Does C5 mean 5th generation Corvette or is it some truck designation?

That's the ride control and you could also get it as an option on the base model.

That adjustment knob means that the car has the selective suspension, sometimes called "magnetic" due to the magnetorheological fluid in the shock absorbers. It does not have the Z51. 5th generation corvettes from 2001 on have a different electronic brake control module than earlier models. If the stability control/ABS run by the EBCM has an issue, it can generally be repaired on 2001 and later vettes, but is almost impossible to fix on earlier models. By this time the steering lock issue that the C5's had, has almost certainly been addressed by a prior owner.

Look in the Glovebox. There should be RPO codes listed. If it has the Z51 package it will be listed. Another way is to look at the power steering pump, according to Corvette forums the Z51 included a power steering cooler.

Yes you have the ride control option,that is different than Z51

As others have mentioned, if it has the magnetic ride system on the C5 it won’t be combined with the Z51 package. It was the same for the C6 as well. It wasn’t until the C7 came out that they started offering the option to get magnetic ride with the Z51 package. It ended up being quite popular because a lot of people found the Z51 shocks too stiff for daily use but when combined with the adjustable mag ride they could dial it down softer and get the ride comfort and then when they wanted the better handling they could dial it up stiffer.

I could have gotten mag ride with my base model C7 but opted against it due to extra cost and because on my C6 the mag ride shocks wore out by 70,000 miles and they were so expensive to replace that I opted to buy some low mileage Z51 shocks from a friend who has a Corvette performance shop, and he also “tuned out” the mag ride setup in the ECM so that it would not throw off a bunch of codes.
