Hello.
I wanted to contribute to the forum since I've been doing a fair amount of research since joining. Since 2000, I've always had GM (2000 Suburban, 2007 Suburban, 2016 Yukon XL Denali) and have been consistent on my oil filters and oil. Previously used Mobil 1 EP for the past two vehicles and for the Denali, I've been running Mobil 1 AP 0W-20 and the M1-212A filter. I've never had any issues over the years with the oil or filters so I stayed consistent. I recently decided to research some of the other filter options available as I'm a bit anal on maintenance but that's another issue. At any rate, I got several of the filters for my Denali and wanted to dissect them to learn and share with y'all as well. I know several have been posted but I wanted to show them collectively in case anyone had any questions regarding the related vehicle they could find in one place. So without further delay...

My initial comments/observations:

- The ACDelco looks like it flows really well but with the paper/fiber end caps and plastic "e-core" I would be religious about changing often as I'm not sure how well it would hold up. The threaded cap seems rigid and also appears to promote flow. ADBV appears to be rubber of some sort.

- The Fram Ultra looks solid however, couple observations: The top metal removable neck that seats into the filter where the ADBV then seats on top seems like it could be a failure/inner leak point (again... just my uneducated observation). The filter itself is noticeably shorter than all other filters. (I'm curious about this) I'm currently running this brand now and will post a C&P next OCI for observations.

- The Wix seems good and has wire-backed media filter and a sturdy can exterior. The oil pressure relief valve is a little different design... not stamped steel with spring but rather a coil spring under the filter media bottom cap and then some sort or spring valve inside the tube that seals the bottom until pressure is reached. Planning to run this filter next OCI.

- Mobil 1 seems to be built like a tank. Very thick can wall compared to all other filters. Has stamped steel with coil oil bypass valve. Has integrated steel neck on top where ADBV seats on. Doesn't have full synthetic filter media. Has six smaller holes around ADBV near threaded top but very solid. Not sure if this affects flow. Inner steel tube has many perforations/slits vs holes.

Curious what others notice.

I realize aside of the ACDelco, all of these are overkill as I'm slightly OCD about my OCI's and never go above 7k max intervals... if that.

Thanks for posting. Not an inexpensive experiment, but I do understand the need to satisfy your own curiosity.

Thank you for this C & P. You did a great job. I'll be watching for more of the same in the future. Thanks again. Irishman

True . The can a bit too thin . But for every normal grocery getter soccer mom car is fine

Nice C&P info ... thanks. But a few comments - see your text in red.

Nobody can tell how an oil filter flows just by looking at it. Only way to know for sure is to see measured delta-p vs flow data.

I think you have the WIX XP mixed up with the Ultra. The WIX XP clearly shows to have the "removable neck that seats into the filter where the ADBV then seats" The Ultra has no such neck. And yes, that looks like a metal-to-metal "seal".

Your WIX XP photo showing the "neck" you speak of.

And if you look closely, there are "channels" that run in towards the centertube, so the actual metal-to-metal "seal" between the end cap and that "neck" is that thin annular ridge around the center tube. Maybe that's a reason why the WIX XP efficiency isn't that great ... possible source of dirty oil leakage.

Really? For what cars or applications is it too thin?

And you can judge this just by looking at it?

Ironically, the Fram is probably the best flowing and filtering. Highest dirt holding capacity

The WIX is the worst at filtering but decent flow and dirt capacity.

The ACDelco is an Ecore, and is a very middling filter.

The Mobil is a close relative of the Amsoil, RP, and good K&N filters. So it's a solid choice but in my experience doesn't flow well and makes for a noisy Hyundai.

I use Mobil 1 and Fram Ultras, I regret cheating on them.

No. By measuring with calipers. All Fram cans are .015". K&N and Mobil 1 by contrast are .020"

The Wix looks well built but can't justify using it over the FU and M1 due to the horrible efficiency ratings of the platinum. Even the [censored] has better efficiency ratings.

I'm was about to say the same thing . Also fram doesn't have many thread . I like Mobil 1 for thick wall and heavy thick base

If fram throw in a thick wall can and thick base with more thread . Since they got the filter right . It's would be a total perfect filter. Fram need work on their can design . I wouldnt mind pay $12 for that
