Vehicle is an 89 S-10 Blazer, with 4.3L V6, 4X4, 700R4.
Packaging is a bit tight, to say the least!
It has the stock remote-mount fullflow oil filter setup GM built it with. I've replaced the swedged Aluminum to rubber hoses with AN fittings and braided stainless covered hose.
Want to install a Motorguard bypass filter. I also want to install an oil cooler, and am a bit confused about the optimum setup.
I can't possibly put an oil filter on the bottom of the engine due to the front axle being in the way. There's a factory remote adapter as mentioned above. I should be able to add a sandwich adapter to the filter block on the left fenderwell with little problem. Does this truck have a bypass valve in the adapter I should know about? I notice in other posts that this would cause a problem-- so I want to avoid that. I'll be ordering the filter from Ralph next Friday.
As I mentioned, I also want to install an oil cooler. Is there a problem with breaking the return-to-engine side of the factory remote mount filtration setup, running the return to the oil cooler in front of the engine, and then back to the motor? All hose will be -8AN SS braid, teflon cored. If this is not appropriate, please advise what is.
