Hi Y'All,

I'm new here, this is my first post.

I have a CAT C-12 in a Freightliner FLD112. I just discovered that yhe C-12 came stock with two filter bases, one is for the regular full-flow filter, the other is for a bypass filter. I wondered what that other cap was for, and that's it.

The truck was previously in the Penske fleet. I bought it with 269,000 miles on it, now it has about 305,000 miles. I installed the bypass filter yesterday, CAT p/n 1W-8845.

Haven't gone anywhere yet.

What should I expect from this bypass filter? How often should I change it? What are some things to watch for?

I have been doing oil analysis at every oil change, I thought I'd pull a sample every 10,000 miles now and see how it goes.

Thanks.

The cat p/n 1W-8845 crosses to a Fleetguard LF777. I know the LF777 is rated at 99% 30 micron, 98% 10 micron and 95% 5 micron.
Doing oil samples that frequently is definately a good thing until you can work out a good change interval. On any equipment we have on our farm with a bypass filter, I change both filters at every oil change.
