Finally had all I could stand of my 08 Sienna. Traded it on a lightly used Expedition Eddie Bauer. I got a big fat number on trade because of toyota's "reputation" and got a great price on the gas hog expedition. A large third row vehicle is the smallest thing my family can happily live with.

After 16 months with my toyota I had:

bad cat converter around 2500 miles (three trips to dealer before replaced)

broken drivers seat (two trips to dealer before replaced)

broken drivers seat #2 (two trips to dealer-regional service guy "adjusted and repaired" my seat on second trip)

broken seat #3 (after second seat was "adjusted/repaired")-dealer and toyota cororate refused to schedule a service appt "until toyota could develop a solution" instead of just replacing the seat

Total of seven dealer service visits in 16 months.

Toyota refused to replace seat a second time because they "can't find out why the part is breaking and toyota does not throw parts at problems" yet I have to keep driving a vehicle with a broken drivers seat while they call each other (service mgr, claim rep in CA, regional service mgr, etc) and promise to call you back.

Waiting three days for phone calls to be returned to be told one person left another a message and is waiting to hear back.

Add to all of this a HORRIBLE build quality and materials used in the interior of the vehicle. The car had at least four rattles in the car that could not be fixed and another that was 90% repaired. The stereo was JUNK. The van chewed up tires in no time and to top it off the front rotors were beginning to warp when traded with 33K miles.

I feel like a heavy load has been lifted from my shoulders.

IME
Toyota dealer service - F
Toyota corporate F
Toyota warranty service F

I have gone back to "domestic junk" that has never given me a major problem and have always gotten good service from the dealers.

We replaced a dog tired 98 Ford Windstar with 190K(which was a great vehicle for us) with the Sienna and would have bought a Ford Freestar but Ford quit the minivan platform which pushed us to toyota.

I will leave the toys to their many fans. I know toyota makes some good cars but when they make a they will tell you to pound sand.

Probably Kentucky, but I may be wrong.

edit: I am wrong. First gen was in Kentucky. The current one is built in Indiana.

Always had good luck with Honda, no dealer visits yet for the 08 Ridgeline or 05 CR-v. Haven't ever dealt with Toyota.

When we purchased our 4-Runner, we test drove...

Sienna
Highlander
Camary
RAV4
&....4-Runner

Of all those vehicles, the Sienna was clearly, very clearly the the least desireable. Brand new it was very unimpressive. The wife hated it. I hated it. By far...if I needed a mini-van, I would purchase a Dodge Caravan before the Sienna.

Anyway, I wonder if the Sienna is simply a poor engineering design coming out of a poor performing factory???

I say that because our 4-Runner is just friggin AWESOME!!!! LOVE IT TO PIECES!!!!!

Tell me: how much do you weight? (seriously)?

Another unsatisfied Sienna owner. Our '99 was a complete lemon. Traded it for a Saturn Vue.

"What does Toyota do when they find a lemon on the assembly line?"
"They sell it to you."

ITS A FOREIGN VEHICLE THAT HAS MORE PARTS MADE IN USA ITS THE BEST!!!

but no on a serious note toyotas are usually great cars I helped my GF pick out a 2007 corolla when she was shopping for em and the 84 4banger pickup with over half a million miles in my backyard. Sorry to hear you got a lemon.

Welcome to the Expedition club. Hopefully the service history with yours will be as uneventful as the three we've owned (two of which we still currently own).

Did you not take advantage of the lemon law in Tenn.? Seems like you probably could have gotten back most of the purchase price of that vehicle, given the problems you've had with it that haven't been properly fixed. With 7 repairs in 16 months and still persistent problems, I think you'd have had a strong case!

Toyota and Honda seem to be putting [censored] tires on some of their new vehicles lately. My mom has a 2007 Honda CR-V with only about 16000 miles or so and her tires are already almost worn out. Pitiful!

I've heard Toyota's quality has slipped a bit lately but they're still one of the top rated manufacturers for frequency-of-repair reliability, according to Consumer Reports. Sorry you got a lemon but glad you got a good deal on your Expedition. Let us know how it works out for you.

+1

Anybody I've known with a Sienna has hated it...it is the strangest thing....

IMO Toyota does have reduced quality compare to the 90s, I wouldn't think they've gone that low though.

Plastic pieces and sharp edges, sure, but mechanical and chairs? really?

Although a Toyota built in the U.S. also helps support our economy (as objects manufactured in the U.S. but even by foreign companies are still included as U.S. GDP) but if the Ford, and some of them are, is built in a foreign country then you're just supporting the rich executives.

hahaha!! I would ask the same thing!

I go 240 but the van is driven 90% of the time by my wife who goes @150. The sienna is ONLY sold in north America so I would think they would need to design the seat to hold people a lot bigger than we are?

Supporting "union jobs" is a negative aspect of buying from a domestic brand IMO.

Just talking product I like domestic stuff better but I despise the practices of labor unions.

The TN law requires THREE failed attempts to repair in the first 12 months of ownership. All of my problems didn't take place within the one year time frame.
