BYD may come to the US via Mexico

I went to a State University for two years, and paid my own way. I also went to a private school and paid my own way. I took a loan for that, and paid it off.
Great, but that was not my question. You said in #98, "After that college is on the student".
You understand State Universities are subsidized by the tax payers, grants, etc, right? Otherwise they would cease to exist.

Some posters seem to be against State schools yet have taken advantage of them. Just trying to get to the bottom of what some mean.

I know how state universities work. I answered the question, I paid, I didn't go for free. They told me the cost I agreed and went. I also took a loan to go to private school, I paid it back, no debt forgiveness. Lets keep it that way.

I never said you went for free. I didn't go for free either. I am saying the cost of State colleges and Universities are borne by more than the student.
We were both subsidized by taxes, etc. Our tuition did not pay for the entire cost of State schools.
I never mentioned debt forgiveness. I asked you to clarify your posts.

My daughter did much the same lived frugally, no fancy vacations . Driving a 2014 Ford Fiesta, rehomed/used older cell phone until she just bought a new one, streaming TV buckled down, knocked out her student loans in slightly less than 5 years with some help from us because she was so good at taking my advice and sticking to the amortization sheets I printed out for her, for each additional payment she made we matched it by 50%. Doing very well with an international company who just created a whole department for her to run based on what she already achieved there.
Turns her stomach that if she didnt pay it off ahead of time the taxpayers would have. Im proud of her and I know she is too.
Anything given away for free has no value in it to the person, whether they know it or not. IN the real world, you work for it and get the satisfaction of achieving what you have, just like I read what you did.

My posts were perfectly clear. It is obvious we aren't going to agree on several points, so once again we can agree to disagree.

We're on the same page, and you should be very proud of your daughter. My son gave close to 17 years of his life serving this country. Guess what? He's going to college free, he earned that right. Sickening to think that people who did nothing somehow feel things are owed to them because they live here. My age is showing. 'LOL'

No they were not. In #98 you posted, "After that college is on the student," but you also wisely took advantage of a State school and you said you knew how State schools operate in #102.
Those are contradictory.

Actually I believe we both value education, so there's that.

1970's I paid what the state asked. Boy oh boy can I elaborate on how times and the US changed. Sadly my hands are tied here. I once again repeat I didn't go for free! You're playing with words. And I didn't look for a handout to pay off my private school loan. I got a job, worked and paid it off. People today should do the same thing, we'd have a better world.

What part of me saying people should not go to college FREE is unclear to you? It is not about me it is about people today. I paid! I stated examples of how people can go free. We can play this game all day if you like, but I'm getting tired of repeating myself now.

Well, I am asking specifically about you and your thoughts. You posted them.

Here is what is unclear:
You and I were subsidized at the State college level; no one said you or I went free. You also said, in post #98, "After that college is on the student, via what I mentioned earlier." These are your words.

Based on that, you appear to be saying you no longer believe in the State college and University programs, even though you and I benefited from them.

By the way, kudos on your school and work ethic. Perhaps others can learn and prosper from them. That would be great.

Start reading from where I quoted @Trav Post in #85, and how I felt about free school after the 12th grade. Later on you asked me about State Universities, I answered. I have a feeling once you start reading from post #85, things will be a lot clearer for you. We might even partially agree. ;)

You know, I forgot to mention, while her friends were going on spring break, she was working at a local tavern outside of Clemson University.
In addition to that, her very first year away from home, she already had a job 3 days before she started her first year of college

Previously before college, she also worked in our local area

@demarpaint like your son, striving for something build character

Looks like you did quite well yourself for your son!
A family member of mine, husband thought he was going to be a career military officer as an engineer, he changed his mind after serving a couple tours in Iraq.
But the education that he got there was instrumental in an incredible career that he has right now. Yet when he first returned here to the states, he started at the bottom of the barrel and Now is CEO of the company making money no one we know in our generations of family ever imagined.
He switched jobs a few times, because corporate headhunters kept hunting him down and ultimately became a CEO

Best of all, he’s an incredible family man

Who is stopping China? Tesla? GM? I don't think so but all is fair in business if they are.
The big three build what they make money on. Why not ask Tesla why they don't build an affordable ICE vehicle too? Doesn't make sense.
But here is the catch. Once of the most AWESOME, nicest looking low cost vehicles that defies its low cost comes from GM. The prices are less than Harley Motorcycles! Beautiful vehicle that you don't have to feel embarrassed to drive. Americans do not want to buy stripped down cars or they would be offered.
This is just one of them. Now how about Tesla? Ford, Stellantis ... they must have some too right?

2024 Chevy Trax
The cheap trax looks cheap. Saw one this past weekend. Saw a higher model a few weeks before and that looked good. But the base look base. Just overall lame look

That is why it's cheap? ;) Name of the game is upsell, though may look beautiful to a person or family that cannot afford more. But the point is, it can be bought at a low price serving an under served market and price point.
I have to wonder if the one you didnt like was an older than 2024 because to me, the 2024's look awesome at any price, not so with earlier models.
This is an example, I just built it on Chevy's website. I mean, what more can we expect for 21K. ? Who else has something that looks better? Accepting the fact that we all have different taste.

Definitely was a new 24 model. In person very cheap looking. Higher trims much better.

Many makes and models are like that though. Look at a base dodge challenger vs a wide body srt model. IMO cheap vs wow
