Thanks to this site and information, I now have clean oil on my transmission and engine using Motor Guard ATF filters on my 97 Chevy Astro AWD van. They have been installed them at 136778 miles. It now has 138600 on it. I plan to change engine filter at 3k intervals and the transmission once per year. My yearly mileage is around 16k.

I have 7 vehichles and all of them have Amsoil ATF in the trans along with a BE90/BP80A filter/mount combo. ATF can never be "too clean"! Excellent results so far.

3 of the above vehichles also have a BMK13 on the engine but I'm considering not transferring them to their replacement vehichles because the bypass elements just cost too much. Four 12.5k mile XD3 oil + Napa Gold filter changes cost approx $100 for a total of 50k miles. 1 50k mile oil change with XD3 4 Napa Golds, 2 BE90's + top up oil=$130.

Not a huge difference but I'm just not comfortable with the steadily increasing TAN and the oil just doesn't look "clean", infact it's pitch black.

I'm on the list now!

2000 Plymouth Neon, 2-liter 4-cyl., 50,030 miles.
Amsoil Dual-remote (BMK-13 I got used)
BE-90 bypass filter
Purolator Pure-One full-flow

Just got it installed last night so I don't have an OCI yet.

Running Exxon Super-Flo 10W30 SM/GF-4 + 1 qt. Pennzoil (bigger sump now than I expected!)

Instead of 4.5 qts. the car now takes almost 7!!

I just installed a TRASKO spin-on bypass filter on my Chevy Venture. This is a new car (to me - 2004 with 19.4k miles when I got it) which I had the oil and TF changed to synthetics when I got it.

I did the Trasko because it is a spin-on replacement. The Venture has NO room under the hood, and in fact you can hardly even see the filter, just enough room to do the filter replacement.

While they had it up on the lift I looked under the van and there is room for a automatic transmission fluid bypass above the frame to the left behind the radiator. I think I will be getting an Motor Guard from Ralph for that. The ATF bypass should be a once every ATF change thing, every 30k-50k miles (with a bypass in place) so the fact that it is not readily accessable isn't a big deal.

The 'Details' are only that a Cam shaft bearing failure caused the engine to fail on the first engine. This Subaru Forester was one year old, no more and had only synthetis AMSOIL in it, and we did oil analysis which showed No Problem. The second engine had a crankshaft bearing on the new short block go. AMSOIL sent in a 3rd party inspector that simply said in the report that the AMSOIL By-Pass filter was not a contributing factor. Subaru said the installation of a By-Pass filter was an unauthorized engine modification, and that voided the warraty on the engine.

The message here is this. TWO LARGE CORPORATIONS, the Auto Manufacturer and AMSOIL both said, " Hey, It's Not My Product's Fault", and then I have 2 choices, SUE both Large Corporations, (who can afford that) or Swallow the two blown engines for 12,000 dollars ! This could be YOU ! I did everything right, the installation of the by-pass unit was done professionally, and properly, the By-pass unit itself was working fine, according to AMSOIL, and the 100% Synthetic AMSOIL motor oil was tested to be OK in both engine failures.

Gee, do I smell something funny?

Anyway, 1997 Camaro Z28 with custom canister bypass filter installation using PB50, for now.

So after saying this exactly what are you expecting of Amsoil.

I would just like to know?

2005 Toyota 4Runner 4.7 V8
Amsoil BMK 13 Dual Bypass
Amsoil 0w30 Series 2000
Sump capacity is now approximately 8.5 qts.
Installed @ 3,000 miles - Now at 6,000 miles
Will follow Amsoil's recommended filter change intervals.

I'll have four vehicles all running Motoguards when the bypass upgrade project is finished:

1) 1971 Chrysler New Yorker, 440TNT (installed)
2) 1992 GMC Sonoma S15, 4.3 (Mount bracket ready)
3) 2000 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.2 (not started)
4) 2002 Chrysler Sebring 2.7 (Mount bracket ready)

I came up with what I think is very slick/trick mounting for the Sebring. It would be applicable to those and the Dodge Stratus for some years with similar underhood arrangement. Finding room in the engine compartment seems to an issue on some of the smaller vehicles. I'll post some pics when I get around to it.

Paul
