In about a week or so I'm planning on installing a by-pass set up on my 2006 F-150 5.4L. At first I was thinking about getting Amsoil's BMK-11 set up but now I decided I'm going to buy the BMK-13 set up mainly for ease of installation and it will make my oil changes a lot easier by relocating the full flow. So my question is this, since my truck will be under warranty for the next few years, I'm still going to be changing my oil using M1 every 5k but I'm planning on using Pureone filters instead of Amsoil's full flow. The reason I'm thinking about doing this is because I've been using Pureone filters for the last 10 years and since I'm going to be changing my oil every 5k, I really can't justify spending double the money on an Amsoil with such a low OCI. I already cross references Amsoil's EaO-15 which is the equivalent of Purolator's PL30001 Pureone and I'd like to know if any of you think that I'll run into trouble doing this?

Later on when my truck is no longer under warranty I'm going to switch over to Amsoil oil as well and try 15k OCI's to see how that goes. Oh, and in case any of you are wondering, the reason I decided to go with the BMK-13 instead of the 11 is that my truck is a 4x4 and my differential is almost right up against my oil switch making it a pain to get to. So with the BMK-13 I'm just planning on mounting it right behind the bumper on the drivers side frame rail and I'll only need about 2 feet of hose to make it to my filter. Thanks in advance!

I can never figure out Amsoil's numbering system. The same mount is used for 13, 15, 16 and 17 ..yet all somehow need different numbers. It only changes due to what you're mounting it on ..or so it seems

. I've got to comment that Amsoil's site is still the most needlessly cumbersome to navigate through. So much for natural selection in a closed eco system.

You'll have no issues with a PureOne over any other filter in place of the SP/EaO-15 other then those associated with the level of filtration that the respective filter provides ...especially over your length of intended service. This should, ultimately, be trumped by the bypass filter that you'll also be using. Many are confident here (me being one of them) that a PureOne ..or other top quality filter, can last well in excess of 10k ..maybe 15k before being loaded too much. I believe that you're into a time/miles composite ..just like you are with oil.

I'll echo Gary by saying that I've used a PureOne alongside the Amsoil bypass filter on my Amsoil dual-remote mount. The UOA was excellent.

Thanks for your help guys! I was pretty sure that U wouldn't have any problems but I wanted to check with the experts here first.

Back in 2001 I bought a V6 Toyota Tacoma that was the vehicle I had before this one and I used to run OCI between 8 and 10k because I used to put so many miles on it. I also used Pureone filters and Pennzoil Synthetic and never had a problem the whole 100k I had the truck. I never bothered to run a UOA because I didn't know any better back then but I figured that if Toyota wanted me to change the oil every 7500 miles using dino, I should at least be able to get an extra 2 or 3k out of synthetic without a problem. Either way thanks for your help and I'll post some pics up as soon as I install the by-pass.
