Wow motor guard looks like the best filter, and most cost effective too!! TP is cheap!

Any ideas where to buy a Motor Guard bypass kit??

Bill,

Great pictures and a very clean installation on your Duramax. Thanks for the post.

I just put an OilGuard EPS10 on a BMW Turbo engine. I will post some installation pictures and baseline oil analysis results in the next few days.

Do you have any oil analysis figures for your Oilguard installation? Your oil certainly looks clean in the pictures.

Steve,

Thanks for the feedback!

I was also surprised at how clean the used oil looks coming out of the Duramax considering it’s a diesel. It was very clean looking even before adding the OilGuard, which I believe, is a function of the Bosch common rail injection system. On previous diesels I have owned the oil was black after 500 miles. However, as we all know, a UOA is the best way to evaluate the oil. The last UOA was at 19k miles and Cu and Si were running a little high but the Duramax is known for elevated Cu and Si during break-in. I’m told the Si is due to leaching from silicone gasket sealants and copper could be from the oil cooler - the other wear metals are low. Other Duramax owners have reported similar results and the Si and Cu trend down as the engine breaks-in. The values from the last UOA (Oil Analyzers) with 5kmiles on Rotella-T 5w40 are as follows:

Iron: 4 (ppm)
Chromium: 0
Lead: 9
Copper: 40
Tin: 0
Aluminum: 1
Nickel 0
Silver 1
Silicon 12
Boron 1
Sodium 0
Magnesium 12
Calcium 2914
Barium 0
Phosphorus 1126
Zinc 1335
Molybdenum 1
Titanium 0
Vandium 0
Potassium 0
Fuel: VIS @ 100C 13.63
Water 0
Soot/Solids 0.1
Glycol NEG
TBN 9.33
OXD 7.0
NITR 9.0

Fantz on motor installed about a week ago
Oil is pennzoil 10w30 dino, ran Mobile 1 before the bypass filter but I want to see how long I can go with a good dino and just changing the tp element.

Amsoil bypass installed 11 years ago on a toyota 4x4 4 cyl RE engine at about 13k miles. Now at 110k. Be90 bypass changed at 25k miles regardless of time. Have left it in as long as 4 years. Had to cut the 4th oil change short because of antifreeze in the oil pan during the timing chain replacemnent last November. Changed the FF oil filter at 12,500 miles regardless of time. Mobil 1 oil filter used, Amsoil 10w30 oil, 6.5 quarts. I use the Landcruiser filter instead of the stock one as it is 2.5 times larger and fits.

A Motor Guard M-30 bypass filter that I got from Ralph, and a Permacool sandwich adapter. The supply/return lines are both connected to the sandwich adapte. I installed them about 100 miles ago. Havoline 10W30 oil (which turns black fairly quickly) is beginning to clear up.
