I’ve seen UPS trucks on retreaded Bridgestones, and the carcass Bandag drops treads on are more than a decade old. I’ve seen transit and tour buses with 10+ year old tires but they’re been retreaded. Usually an older Goodyear, Firestone or Michelin carcass with fresh Bandag or Prince tread.
I’ve walked by an Odyssey or Windstar on 20 year Michelin Symmetry tires that looked very weather checked but had plenty of meat on them. While Mercedes recommends tire replacement every 5 years, DOT says 10 years is the limit. Costco won’t touch tires more than 5 years old, America’s/Discount has a 10 year cut off. My experience with Michelin, the sidewalls will be ugly and weather checked/dry rotted but there’s still serviceable tread. Hence why I feel Michelins are better for a daily-driven car/truck, get your money’s worth before replacement.
