Prime Guard POF241: Unknown

This filter was looking really, really good. Right up until the enormous tear. Media was ripped almost front to back on both top and bottom near seam. Glue glopped all over, so I can assume it was fine before the works was stuffed into the can. Otherwise, it looked like a really good jobber filter. WIX made?

Firestone TF2876: 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5L 106k; 3,100mi/4mo/Kendall GT1 5w30

Really cheap jobber. Can took almost no effort to cut through. Spring was easy to manipulate on my own. ADBV was pliable but really thin on the edges, thick and stiff in the center. Huge media pleat gaps. Didn't like the denter tube's hole sizes. Really "meh" about the whole thing.

Ugly pleat collapse and tear.

Very wide pleat spacing is the first step to cause a failure like this ... unless the media is bullet proof, which most isn't.

Without mileage tough to tell much about durability. That said, Wix looks good/solid as expected.

Prime Guard, not so much. Thinking made in China. Seen some decent ones of these PG jobber type filters posted. This one looks ugly with the flat pleat, result, and excess glue.

Though tiny and no media area leader, the Firestone looks ok for a jobber filter. It's Champ made and the equivalent of the shorty 14612/6607. The Firestone would be same as Fram Core/Walmart Tire and Lube Express, STP, 'Fram' Defense filter line. Many of these are ecore, but not this one.

I suppose because they choose to have Champ/(fram) put their name on them for advertising/promotion etc purposes. I'd also think, with their name on them also makes them appear backed by Firestone. 'Similar' to Valvoline quick lube putting the Valvoline name on the filters used.
