Built LM7, 5.3L, dyno 487hp, currently use Redline SAE 10W40
Redline is costly for restomod. What would be comparable oil to use and lower cost.

Pretty much any off the shelf full syn 0/5/15w-40. What's the coldest temp you'll be starting it at? and does it have a high volume pump? These engines don't need a hvp unless the clearances are wider so do you know what the clearances are?.

Engines with low hot idle pressure like fords (15 psi) benefit from a hvp but not so much these. Going from 30 to 40 gives me 35+ at hot idle with my lm7 and lq4 both stock though but bulletproof. I forgot what the psi was with 30 grade I think 28 psi? Been forever since these engines pumped 30 grade I switched to 40 long ago. No real need for a high pressure spring either with these. What's your hot idle oil pressure with redline 10w-40 and what's your hot cruising pressure.

Most 10w-40's aren't anything spectacular but these engines will live forever on conventional or syn blend 10w-40 if changed frequently but since those bearings are getting loaded up with a lot more power so I'd skip it. But redline 10w-40 is leaps and bounds better than off the shelf 10w-40. The best off the shelf 10w-40 I know is Mobil 1 high mileage but it's not worth buying at its price.
