If they have very little data needs, setup the free Dropbox for them so there is some backup of data w/o end-user complexity. Or Box, they give up to 50GB free.

To be able to read better on the screen, you may need a smaller resolution with a larger diagonal screen. ie. 24" dia screen with say 780p will produce bigger text than a 1080p on the same size diagonal screen.

I was able to take advantage of Dell outlet coupon to grab following desktop:- Inspiron 620 i5 2310 (6MB cache 2.9GHz) with 1TB 7200rpm disk and 8GB memory for meager $340 + tax! If you try to price this at Staples etc stores, it will be over $700.
