Spotted them in an isle end cap at my local WM,on Transit Rd., Lancaster, NY. They are called, "Valu Power", Group sizes 75-78-65 with high cca. Made by Johnson Control with a 1 year warranty. All the same price $48.88.

Would be a great deal if someone has a dead battery on a car they're looking to sell real soon or trade in.

If I lived in a cold climate I would try it in my car since batteries seem to last forever there.

Here you're extremely lucky to get 3 years out of a battery.

Only thing those are good for is to replace a battery on a car you are going to get rid of shortly and you don't have the time to visit the boneyard.

This could be a sleeper. IDK how they can decontent their product to make it fail in a year, so the warranty could be attempting to shame the purchaser into something nicer.

I remember great service from a JCI DT3N universal. Had side terminals and top ones. The N stood for North, different plates.

Are they still made by JCI? I visited Walmart and their batteries look different than the used to. JCI batteries usually have those octagon caps on them, which WM's batteries used to until just now.

The $49 value batteries are also available in 24F and 35.

Do you realize that Tractor Supply buys no warranty from Exide and handles all warranties itself? Very short coverage, but also very low prices.I bet WM doesn't buy the warranty either and covers it out of pocket.

As OP and as other have mentioned, I would only get one if I was only keeping the vehicle a short time.

I got me a "blem" three years ago from an Interstate Distributor for $40 plus tax. Had it check recently at ADVANCE and it's good for the fourth year.

I bought one of these in a Group 26 size last week. Before everyone jumps on me, it's for a two cylinder 16kw generator that only requires 450 cca. I priced similar batteries (granted with longer warranties) at Advance, Autozone, Carquest and Napa, and prices for a Group 26 ranged from $72 to $120.

I was glad to save the money, considering the application. Besides, it's still a Johnson Controls product.

Right. When I buy a battery, I'm looking at the warranty and the CCA. In that order. I can't tell you how many free or pro-rated batteries I've gotten over the last 25 years in various cars. In fact I just got one in the SC a few months ago. I buy one with a 10 year full replacement warranty for $160, and I have a working/newly replaced battery for 10 years.

If you are going to get rid of the car, then don't bother with the long warranty, but I keep my cars for a long time.

1 year warranty means they probably cut a lot of corner. The last 2 year warranty Walmart battery died at year 3, and I'd never buy another cheap battery like that unless I'm just going to crush the car later (used battery from junkyard may be a better choice).

I wouldn't take a chance on a $50 battery. Back in 2007-2008, I was stuck installing $50 NAPA 75/35DT batteries, and many were dead after 3 months.

There is some money in the warranty itself... A few bucks at least. What is the pricing on those sizes with the normal warranty? Like $72-78?

They may also be blemished, they mat be ones that test with a higher impedance to begin with, or they could be a slightly different alloy/recycled/etc.

I'd guess these are just old batteries that sat on the shelf and never got sold. They then, Self discharged into the sub80% charged zone where they sulfate and lose capacity and cranking amps.

A Lead Acid battery can self discharge 15% a month, but most are less than this. higher Ambient temperatures increase the self discharge rate.

I'll guess that they recharged them and threw some new stickers on them and dropped the price, and still likely will make a handsome profit.

Pop a Cap and Dip a hydrometer. You might even be able to see the flaky sulfation on the plates with a strong flashlight.

They will still likely give OK service if kept fully charged.
