someone in our family backed the minivan out of the garage with the hatch up. (4th time) this time it shattered the backlight. how many years does it take to remove all traces of glass?!?!?!?!?!?

There's still glass in the back hatch that I cant get to; glass behind sound insulation; tiny little shards embedded in the carpet.... grrrrrrr!

It will never be all gone. :) My S-10 Blazer got rearend years ago (when I had it) shattered the glass. Even after I sold it, which was three years later, the new owner was still getting glass out of it.

I know a guy who bought a new chevy nova (corolla) in the 1980s and got a great deal on it.

Its rear window had been smashed in transit (kids throwing rocks at trains?) and the body/glass shop cleaned it up the best they could. They disclosed the incident. He claims to have found a little evidence though.

Amazing, isn't it?
You'd think that in such a small area, it could be cleaned up readily!
It somehow does not work out that way!

I would have the guilty family member tell you how long it took after THEY got it all cleaned up....
If YOU clean up the mess it will surely guarantee a 5th incident.

It will take a while. My old Saturn had an unfortunate encounter with the blunt end of a tree limb in the middle of the windshield during a thunderstorm. Lots of shards fell down in the defroster vents, and for years after that I would occasionally hear a piece rattling around in the air ducts. I kept finding glass in the carpet no matter how many times I vacuumed.

If it's rolling around in the hatch and annoying you, you can use a can of that expanding foam insulation and it will trap it and keep it from rattling. Put a piece of rubber vacuum hose on the nozzle and you can get it really deep in there.
